Starting this fall, 12.5 million copies of a preparedness leaflet will be distributed to households in Poland. Parts of the content is built on research conducted at Hanken’s HUMLOG Institute, with Associate Professor Wojciech Piotrowicz contributing as one of the co-authors and editor. The initiative is led by the Polish Ministry of Defence.

The Hanken alum Stefan Larsson’s “Dare to Dream” scholarship will be awarded to one Hanken student who is currently pursuing master studies and aims to graduate in 2026. The global professional services company Reddal is the newest member of Hanken's partner programme. “Linguistic and cultural diversity is important to us, so it is natural that we start a collaboration with Hanken School of Economics”, says Reddal's CEO Per Stenius.

Hanken School of Economics’ Bachelor's Programme in Swedish received 2488 applications (2023: 2148), 1680 to Helsinki (2023: 1410) and 808 to Vaasa (2023: 738) in the joint application that closed on 27.3.2024.

The Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland has awarded a grant of 200,000 EUR for a project to research the matriculation examination in the Swedish language and literature, the test results, and the language of the examinees. This is a joint project between Hanken School of Economics and the University of Helsinki.

Professor Terry Esper is visiting Hanken during spring 2024 as a Fulbright Distinguished Professor.

Several students at Hanken School of Economics have been involved in helping a project for Unicef Finland to investigate how much children's rights are taken into account in Finnish listed companies. Unicef Finland report shows that the majority of companies do not consider or measure their impact on children.

For the first time in 10 years, a Finn brings home an individual men's medal in the World Orienteering Championships. Olli Ojanaho, who studies Management and Organisation at Hanken, won the bronze medal in long-distance orienteering in Switzerland in July 2023.

Through the transformed Hanken International Talent initiative, all international degree students can now receive support for integrating into Finnish society and working life. We spoke to two students who have experienced the benefits.

At its meeting on 19 April 2023, Hanken School of Economic's Board appointed Gyöngyi Kovács, Mika Gabrielsson and Sören Kock as new deans. In addition to this, the Board has decided to launch a new bachelor's programme in English, in parallel with the traditional bachelor's degree programme in Swedish. The first admission will take place in 2024.

KvarkenSat is a joint small satellite between the Ostrobothnian provinces and Västerbotten. Parental leave can, however, also have negative consequences for women's careers in professions where knowledge progresses fast.

Hanken School of Economics annually appoints the Alumni of the Year, a Hanken Alumnus/Alumna who has been topical in the past year and has received acknowledgement for their engagement in society. The Alumnus/Alumna has also kept contact with Hanken and shown an interest in the development of Hanken after their graduation. This year, Hanken appointed Heidi Schauman as the Alumna of the Year.

After many years in the oil industry, Linda Tallberg changed her career and started researching human-animal relations at work. She is often asked the question: what do animals have to do with business?

Big questions such as decolonization, the relevance of research to the global south, and the future of work, were on the agenda of the fourth Responsible Organising conference, held at Hanken on the 28th of April.

Rasmus Öhman, 28, graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in accounting from Hanken in Helsinki. He continued to Aalto University where he became a Master of Economics in 2019. Since October 2019, he has been working at Deloitte AG in Zurich.

There is a method for examining how Finnish companies are fulfilling their human rights responsibilities on a yearly basis.

Applicants will be informed of how the entrance examinations will be carried out by 16 March. Universities have continued to prepare student admissions for 2021, taking into account the current coronavirus situation. The United Nations Guiding principles on Business and Human rights were launched in 2011. However, there is little consistency as to the level and means through which companies implement human rights and these guidelines.

Last year Hanken committed to be carbon neutral by 2030. As a step towards that goal, Hanken has now compensated for its calculated emissions from 2019.
