How to apply

All applications are submitted electronically to the recruitment database Laura. In the menu to your left you can find more information and frequenly asked questions about the database.

The documents candidates are asked to deliver are specified separately depending on the position and the discipline, so please make sure to check the advertisement for exact detail. In most cases, however, the applicant documents asked for include

Tenure track or other teaching and research positions:

  • Application letter
  • CV
  • Publication list
  • Selected, max. 5 recent publications in PDF form
  • Teaching portfolio (i.e.experience and philosophies of teaching and curriculum development; please use Hanken's Teaching portfolio template Opens in new window or make sure your own version covers the same topics and follows the same guidelines)
  • Research statement/plan including a demonstration of the applicant’s fit with the position, description of current and planned research, publications in the pipeline, and funding obtained for various projects
  • References

Administrative and supporting positions:

  • Application letter
  • CV
  • Other relevant documents

Selection process

To support an open and merit-based selection process, we have standardized recruitment processes for all levels of recruitment.

Doctoral student (level 1)

Assistant Professor (level 2)

A recruitment group appointed by the Head of Department review all applications and the most qualified are selected for the next stage. Then the recruitment group selects which applicants should be invited to an interview and trial lecture. The recruitment group ranks the candidates based on an overall assessment. The Department Council processes the assessments before proposing to the Rector who should be appointed Assistant Professor.

Associate Professor (level 3)

A recruitment group appointed by the Head of Department reviews all applications and the most qualified are selected for the next stage. The shortlist is communicated to the Department Council. The shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview and trial lecture. The Research Track Committee, appointed by Rector, evaluates the applicants’ qualifications and delivers a statement. The recruitment group ranks the candidates based on an overall assessment. The Department Council proposes to the Rector who should be appointed Associate Professor.

Professor (level 4)

A recruitment group appointed by the Head of Department reviews all applications and the most qualified are selected for the next stage. The Research Council decides on who should be invited to serve as experts. After all experts have delivered their assessments the top candidates are invited to interview and trial lecture. The Research Track Committee, appointed by Rector, evaluates the applicants’ qualifications and makes an overall assessment. The Research Council makes a suggestion to the Department Council who proposes to the Rector who should be appointed Professor.

A recruitment group consisting of the manager and two others (often team or project leader and the HR Director) assess all applications and the most qualified are invited to an interview. The interview can include a small test or task depending on the position’s requirements.
