How to apply

All applications are submitted electronically to the recruitment database Laura. In the menu to your left you can find more information and frequenly asked questions about the database.

The documents candidates are asked to submit are specified separately depending on the position, so please make sure to check the advertisement for details. In most cases, however, the applicant documents asked for include:

Tenure track or other teaching and research positions:

  • Personal statement which includes a description of past research and its scientific quality, academic impact, plans for future research and a description of the candidate’s service to the own department and university, and a description of the candidate’s societal impact. The personal statement needs to be written with the announced position in mind.
  • CV (proposed content at https://tenk.fi/en/advice-and-materials/template-researchers-curriculum-vitae), including list of publications)
  • Selected, max. 5 recent publications in PDF form 
  • Teaching portfolio (i.e.experience and philosophies of teaching and curriculum development; please use Hanken's Teaching portfolio template Opens in new window or make sure your own version covers the same topics and follows the same guidelines)
  • Reference letters

Selection process

To support an open and merit-based selection process, we have standardized recruitment processes for all levels of recruitment.

There is one application round per year to the Hanken PhD Programme. The application is made electronically. Before applying, please read the instructions carefully and remember to upload all the mandatory enclosures.

Assistant Professor (level 2)

A Department Committee (DC), appointed by the Rector, assesses all complete applications using both qualitative and quantitative indicative examples of evidence for the extent to which each candidate fulfils the criteria in the Hanken Personnel Instruction (2023) and the Tenure Track guidelines. The DC shortlists candidates, organises and conducts all interviews, and organises job talks including a research seminar presentation of the ’job market’ paper. Finally, the DC rank all short-listed applicants and prepares a proposal for the Faculty Recruitment and Promotion (FRP) Committee. The FRP Committee assesses all supporting documents underlying the DC's proposal and provides its collective recommendation to the Rector. Rector makes the final decision to offer, or not offer appointment to Assistant Professor Level 2.

Associate Professor (level 3)

A Department Committee (DC), appointed by the Rector, assesses all complete applications using both qualitative and quantitative indicative examples of evidence for the extent to which each candidate fulfils the criteria in the Hanken Personnel Instruction (2023) and the Tenure Track guidelines and shortlists candidates. Rector appoints three external evaluators based on a proposal from the Department Committee to provide statements on the short-listed applicants. The short-listed applicants are given an opportunity to present objections regarding disqualification and/or insufficient impartiality in the selection of external reviewers. The DC rank all short-listed applicants and prepares a proposal for the Faculty Recruitment and Promotion (FRP) Committee. The FRP Committee assesses all supporting documents underlying the DC's proposal and provides its collective recommendation to the Rector. Rector makes the final decision to offer, or not offer appointment to Associate Professor Level 3.

Professor (level 4)

A Department Committee (DC), appointed by the Rector, assesses all complete applications using both qualitative and quantitative indicative examples of evidence for the extent to which each candidate fulfils the criteria in the Hanken Personnel Instruction (2023) and the Tenure Track guidelines and shortlists candidates. Lecturer (level 2)

The DC shortlists candidates, organises and conducts all interviews, and teaching demonstrations. Finally, the DC rank all shortlisted applicants and prepares a proposal for the Faculty Recruitment and Promotion (FRP) Committee. The FRP Committee assesses all supporting documents underlying the DC's proposal and provides its collective recommendation to the Rector. Rector makes the final decision to offer, or not offer appointment to Lecturer Level 2.

University Lecturer (level 3A)

A Department Committee (DC), appointed by the Rector, assesses all complete applications using both qualitative and quantitative indicative examples of evidence for the extent to which each candidate fulfils the criteria in the Hanken Personnel Instruction (2023) and the Tenure Track guidelines. The DC shortlists candidates, organises and conducts all interviews, and teaching demonstrations. Finally, the DC rank all shortlisted applicants and prepares a proposal for the Faculty Recruitment and Promotion (FRP) Committee. The FRP Committee assesses all supporting documents underlying the DC's proposal and provides its collective recommendation to the Rector. Rector makes the final decision to offer, or not offer appointment to University Lecturer Level 3A.

Senior University Lecturer (level 3B)

A Department Committee (DC), appointed by the Rector, assesses all complete applications using both qualitative and quantitative indicative examples of evidence for the extent to which each candidate fulfils the criteria in the Hanken Personnel Instruction (2023) and the Tenure Track guidelines. The DC shortlists candidates, organises and conducts all interviews, and teaching demonstrations. Finally, the DC rank all shortlisted applicants and prepares a proposal for the Faculty Recruitment and Promotion (FRP) Committee. The FRP Committee assesses all supporting documents underlying the DC's proposal and provides its collective recommendation to the Rector. Rector makes the final decision to offer, or not offer appointment to Senior University Lecturer Level 3B.

A recruitment group appointed by the Rector reviews all applications and the most qualified are selected for the next stage. The shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview and trial lecture. The recruitment group ranks the candidates based on an overall assessment and prepares a proposal to the Rector.  Rector makes the final decision. 

 

A recruitment group led by the manager or the project leader assess all complete applications and the most qualified are shortlisted for interviews. The recruitment group conducts all interviews and ranks the candidates. The Head of Department makes a proposal to Rector. 

A recruitment group consisting of the manager and the often team or project leader and or/the HR Director assess all complete applications and the most qualified are invited to an interview. The interview can include a small test or task depending on the position’s requirements. The shortlisted applicants are ranked based on the application materials, the interviews and results from the test and or task.
