However, according to new research this regulation fails to promote sustainable practices and may lead to unintended economic consequences.

Finland has implemented a subsidy scheme to compensate industrial producers for the indirect costs of the emissions trading system. Maria Wang shows in her dissertation that the subsidy has not been optimally designed. The Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland has awarded a grant of 200,000 EUR for a project to research the matriculation examination in the Swedish language and literature, the test results, and the language of the examinees. This is a joint project between Hanken School of Economics and the University of Helsinki.

Students will soon be able to take one entrance exam and use it to apply to several universities and fields of study. The reform will significantly reduce the number of entrance exams. This will make it possible to adjust the schedule of admissions so that those selected through certificate-based admission do not need to prepare for the entrance exams.

KvarkenSat is a joint small satellite between the Ostrobothnian provinces and Västerbotten. It is due to be launched into space in just over a year, with drawings by children and young people on board on the satellite. The small satellite is the result of cooperation across the Kvarken. The nationwide recommendation for remote work has ended and many workplaces have switched to combining remote work and office work in new ways. Different hybrid models will require more planning by both managers and employees and in some cases also redesigning of the office spaces.

The Nordic countries have made it easier for women to combine work and family by creating a parental leave system that has contributed to high labour force participation for women and lower costs in the form of lost income. Parental leave can, however, also have negative consequences for women's careers in professions where knowledge progresses fast.

During the spring, a course in cultural sustainability and communications was organized for the first time at Hanken. The course was a response to the students' interest in courses in the humanities.

Within the agreement between Hanken School of Economics and the Fulbright Center, three US scholars will visit Hanken during spring 2021. Political discussions about whether to merge Hanken in Vaasa with Åbo Akademi University or with the University of Vaasa have been ongoing ever since Hanken in Vaasa was established in 1980.
