Currently, she is leading a Horizon 2020 (EU) COVID-19 project called “HERoS” (Health Emergency Response in Interconnected Systems).

'Niko' works as Researcher in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility at Hanken. His main expertise is in the areas of corporate responsibility, financialization, business and human rights, transnational advocacy networks, and responsible management education. He has a keen interest in pedagogical development and methods.

Teaching on masters, undergraduate, MBA and executive level.

Currently he acts as coordinator for Hanken's study module in Corporate Responsibility.

Diego, prior to joining Hanken and the HUMLOG Institute Diego was Assistant Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and lastly, Head of Department of Information Systems, Supply Chain Management and Decision Making at NEOMA Business School, France. Diego completed his doctoral studies at the CRET-LOG Research Institute, Aix-Marseille University in France, in collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), France. He also followed MSF’s Préparation au Premier Départ Logistique (PPDL) training at CEFORLOG. Diego has over 12 years of experience conducting research in the humanitarian context and over 10 years of experience in teaching and curriculum design. Diego’s current research interests include logistics services in humanitarian operations, modularity, emergency relief logistics, temporary settlements, and competence-based strategic management for humanitarian organizations.

Wojciech Piotrowicz

Associate Professor in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility

Wojciech (PhD Brunel, UK, MA Gdańsk, PL, PGDipLATHE Oxon, UK) is Associate Professor in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility, and former Director of the Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Research Institute (HUMLOG Institute). His PhD was focused on e-procurement evaluation.

Wojciech's current research is related to risks especially in supply chain management, as well as humanitarian logistics, disaster preparedness, security. Wojciech has considerable experience as member of large international research projects within both the public and private sectors. He is recipient of Outstanding and Highly Commended paper awards from Emerald Literati Network. Since 2019 Wojciech leads an Academy of Finland research project focused on humanitarian logistics in conflict areas.

Helleke Heikkinen

Helleke’s research interest includes sustainable last mile deliveries and urban logistics, integrating perspectives on cities, sustainability, and innovation through sensemaking and paradoxical theory.

Mikael Öhman

Assistant Professor in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility

Mikael Öhman, an Assistant Professor at Hanken School of Economics, previously conducted doctoral research at Aalto University. Throughout his academic journey, he has collaborated closely with industry to bridge theory and real-world problem-solving. His methodological focus on Design Science resulted in an award-winning dissertation, "Design Science in Operations Management," published in prestigious journals like the Journal of Operations Management and Journal of Business Logistics. Mikael's research explores the potential of digital technologies in revolutionizing operations and supply chain management, with expertise spanning production planning, quality management, performance measurement, and procurement across diverse industries. 

Sarah Schiffling

Assistant Professor in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility

Sarah enjoys writing about supply chain topics for general audiences and often contributes to media coverage on TV, radio, podcasts, online, and in print. Many of her articles have been published by The Conversation. Sarah's research interests include transport infrastructure and climate change, pharmaceutical supply chains, disaster relief operations, supply chain disruptions, and supply chain management in developing nations. Her current projects focus on vaccine supply chains, logistics in conflict areas, commercial-humanitarian interactions, and resilient transport systems. On the latter topic, she is part of the Horizon Europe funded ReMuNet project.

Christian Fjäder 

Professor of Practice in Societal Resilience

Christian Fjäder’s role in Hanken includes developing a research stream in resilience, security of supply and comprehensive security, strengthening the subject’s and HUMLOG’s visibility in Finland and internationally, as well as being a bridge between academia and industry to align research with practical needs. Christian is also co-examiner in the Supply Chain Risk and Resilience course and lectures in various courses. 

In addition to his role at Hanken, Christian is the CEO of Geostrategic Intelligence Group (Geostrat) Ltd, a boutique geostrategic risk and resilience advisory firm. He previously served as Senior Research Fellow at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs and Director for Policy Planning at Finland's National Emergency Supply Agency. Christian held regional (Asia Pacific) and global leadership roles at Nokia, including Head of Risk and Resilience. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Sydney, an MBA from Bond University, and Masters and Bachelor's degrees from Flinders University. He has published scholarly work on resilience, international security, geoeconomics, and strategic risk.

Miranda Lillqvist

Miranda is the Department Secretary at the Department of Marketing. Her responsibilities are administrative tasks at the department, communication with students and staff and planning and coordinating events. Miranda has a Master’s degree in General and Adult education. 

Ketki Kulkarni

Ph.D. in Simulation Optimization Modeling

Ketki Kulkarni's research interests include decision support for traffic networks, simulation, applied optimization and smart logistics. She specializes in the use of advanced simulation software for industrial applications. She has worked extensively in the Finnish marine transport domain for the last 5 years. She has obtained her PhD in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. She is not only interested in contributing to the methodology literature, but also in developing efficient tools that are used by organizations for their daily operations. She finds packaging the research work (math and sim models) into usable solutions exciting and challenging.

Amin Maghsoudi

Ph.D. in Operations Management

Amin Maghsoudi is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Research Institue (HUMLOG Institute), Hanken, Helsinki. Previous appointment inlcudes School of Industrial Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Tehran, Iran, where he held a post as a project researcher. Amin’s doctoral research at Universiti Sains Malaysia investigated inter-organizational coordination among the network of actors in humanitarian supply chains. His research interests include humanitarian logistics and disater relief supply chains, supply chain risk and resilience, digital supply chains, cash and voucher assistance in complex emergencies and refugee crisis. 

Amin is currently involving in two externally funded research projects: 1) A lead reasearch member of Cash & Carry project funded by Academy of Finland, and 2) Principal Investigator (PI) of DigCBA project funded by Norwegian Research Council. The projects look into the distribution of cash and goods, and the digitalization of it along the supply chains. Amin's research outputs are published in peer-reviewed journals such as International Journal of Operations & Production Management. Amin is also supervising Master students and PhD candidates. 

Virva Tuomala

Postdoctoral Researcher

Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibilty

Virva Tuomala is a postdoctoral researcher at the Humlog Institute. She has a BSc and MSc in supply chain management from University of Turku and an MSc in environment and sustainable development from University College London. She gained her PhD in 2021 at Hanken, with a thesis titled Urban food security at the intersection of retail supply chain management and development studies. Fieldwork for the thesis was collected in poor urban neighbourhoods in South Africa and Thailand. Her work has been published in several edited books and academic journals such as International Journal of Logistics Management. Dr. Tuomala has worked in research projects examining environmental sustainability in the humanitarian supply chains digital cash-based assistance in refugee contexts, and innovations in last-mile logistics.

Mohammad Ayati

Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering

Mohammad Ayati is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Urban Symbiosis project at Hanken School of Economics. His research focuses on circular economy, circular supply chains, and sustainability, working across sectors from heavy industry to cutting-edge battery technology and strategic raw materials. Through projects such as Instreams and Reboot IoT Factory, he has collaborated with academic and industry partners across Nordic and European countries. Currently, he leads a work package in the Urban Symbiosis project (WP 3: Circular Supply Chain), funded by the Research Council of Finland.

Tzitzi Caldera

Master's Degree in Public Procurement Management for Sustainable Development

Tzitzi has 14 years of experience mainly in the field of procurement from different UN Agencies (UN WOMEN, UNDP, UNU-WIDER, FAO and UNHCR). Recently, she supported UNHCR's sustainability initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of their supply activities. Her research areas of interest are sustainable procurement, ethical sourcing practices for emergency response and decarbonization strategies for humanitarian supply chain.

Jamile Hamideh

Jamile's research is found at the critical intersection between humanitarian logistics, technology and law. Her work investigates how the use of emerging digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and 3d printing can promote or hinder the participation of beneficiaries in humanitarian supply chains.

Farrukh Iqbal

Farrukh's research is centered on promoting circularity in humanitarian supply chain, aiming to enhance efficiency and sustainability within these critical systems. His work addresses the pertinent need for innovative solutions to improve resources and support sustainable development, particularly in response to humanitarian crises. His work is determined by a commitment to advancing practices that improve both environmental and operational outcomes. He has a widespread experience of 12 years of teaching in University of Central Punjab (UCP), Pakistan as well as holds a training portfolio of disseminating trainings to the employees of United Nations in Kenya and Somalia. He also served as a Director of Quality Assurance and Head for the Centre for Professional Excellence in Pakistan.

Tamara's research focuses on  humanitarian logistics in settings of conflict. Previously, Tamara managed the supply chain response for the Health Pooled Fund in South Sudan. She also has experience in supply chain and logistics consulting, working on end-to-end supply chain projects across retail, pharma, industrial, aerospace and food manufacturing industries.

Sonja Saari

Sonja’s research focuses on the nexus between supply chain sustainability and supply chain resilience in the context of the humanitarian medical cold chain. Specifically, her work explores the humanitarian energy transition to foster sustainable energy access for the humanitarian medical cold chain. Through her research, she seeks to shed light on the factors that legitimise and define energy solutions in the energy-intensive and energy-dependent humanitarian medical cold chain.

Said's passionate about sustainability and big data, he is a results-driven individual with a background in supply chain management, project management, and business analytics. Currently, Said is deeply engaged in a mission to drive positive change within the industry by promoting sustainability and transparency. With a focus on optimising operations, leveraging data-driven insights, and forging strategic global partnerships. His research investigates the enhancement of transparency in multi-tier supply chains, specifically within the textile industry where buyers are western countries and suppliers are developing nations. These supply chains often involve numerous sub-tier suppliers, creating significant challenges for achieving social sustainability. The study aims to address these complexities by exploring the intersection of transparency, social sustainability, and the unique issues faced by suppliers in these regions. Key technologies, such as information-sharing platforms, AI and blockchain, will be evaluated for their potential to improve transparency and address root causes of social issues.

Mushonnifun Faiz Sugihartanto

Faiz's current research focuses on Sustainable Procurement in Coffee Supply Chains in developing countries. His primary research interests include sustainable supply chains, halal logistics and supply chains, circular economy, and operations management. He also works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Management at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Indonesia. His previous appointments include serving as the Head of the Business Analytics and Strategy Laboratory at ITS, where he led members in teaching and research activities in Operations Management and Financial Management. He has extensive consulting experience with both industry and government institutions. Additionally, he had an experience working as a Production Planner at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia.

As a doctoral researcher Claire focuses on humanitarian logistics, specifically on local procurement and market-aligned aid provision. Claire is also head of the Humanitarian Unwrapped podcast.

Previously Claire was a MEAL and Impact consultant in humanitarian contexts including in the Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Bangladesh, Pacific Islands, Jordan, Malawi, West Africa, Nepal, and Madagascar. In 2021, I founded the Local Procurement Learning Partnership for the WFP Innovation Bootcamp, and set it up at the Humanitarian Logistics Association.
