Hanken School of Economics has received over EUR 600 000 funding for joining the EMANAIRE (Empowering Human Agency in AI-Augmented Futures of Work) network. The project will study how AI is changing work and organisations, and is funded by Horizon Europe.

Around 30 alumni gathered at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki in early April for a reunion for those who began their studies in 1965 or earlier. The alumni looked back on their student days with warmth and pride.

Hanken School of Economics participated in a training programme organised by THL to strengthen anti-racist practices in the workplace. The aim was to explore proactive measures for preventing racism and eliminating its impacts in their own workplaces.

Students and tech enthusiasts gathered at Hanken from 9–11 October 2025 to take part in the Quantum x AI Hackathon. During the event, organised in collaboration with Ultrahack, participants developed tools that converged artificial intelligence, quantum computing, portfolio optimisation, and cybersecurity to shape the future of finance.

Hanken alum Yesmith Sánchez started working for the DEI consultancy company Inklusiiv four years ago when diversity, equity, and inclusion issues were not spoken of broadly in Finland. Finland has implemented a subsidy scheme to compensate industrial producers for the indirect costs of the emissions trading system. Maria Wang shows in her dissertation that the subsidy has not been optimally designed. Vaasa city library is moving to a new library system. The library system is used for managing all library materials, loans, and customer data. Due to the change, all library locations will be closed between May 22 and June 6, 2023. During this period, the online library catalogue will also be unavailable.

In a world where humanitarian crises seem to be an ever-present reality, delivering aid to those in need has become more challenging than ever. As humanitarian organisations increasingly turn to cash and voucher assistance (CVA) as a way to provide aid , it is crucial to consider the logistical implications of this. Failure to do so can result in delays, increased costs, and potentially harmful outcomes for the very people organisations strive to help.

I en värld där humanitära kriser tycks vara ständigt närvarande har det blivit svårare än någonsin att ge hjälp till dem som behöver den. The aim of the Finnish universities is to streamline certificate-based admission and to ensure that the study opportunities are not unnecessarily restricted by subject choices made at general upper secondary level. The global network Junior Achievement Worldwide has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. KvarkenSat is a joint small satellite between the Ostrobothnian provinces and Västerbotten. It is due to be launched into space in just over a year, with drawings by children and young people on board on the satellite. The small satellite is the result of cooperation across the Kvarken. The amount of misinformation related to COVID-19 is disproportionately high compared to content produced by fact-checkers on Twitter. Misinformation also lives longer online. This is shown by results from an ongoing study on online misinformation about COVID-19.

In 2017, The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre conducted an audit of Hanken’s quality system and awarded it a quality label that is valid for six years. In February, Hanken signed up for the next national evaluation taking place in 2023.

Why are universities holding on-location entrance examinations during the pandemic?
After carrying out careful assessment and risk analyses, Finnish universities have concluded that holding entrance examinations which require applicants’ physical presence and also involve careful safety arrangements is the best way to implement a fair student admission procedure that takes into account subject-specific special requirements and treats all applicants equally.

There is a method for examining how Finnish companies are fulfilling their human rights responsibilities on a yearly basis.

Companies equipped with modern technology, such as with the capability to purify water, can control and shape what is understood as the truth about water in rural villages in the global South. Through this, rural villages are made dependent on private companies related to water supply, Yewondwossen Tesfaye states in his doctoral dissertation “Neoliberalism in everyday governmentality: The conduct of rural drinking water and rainwater practices”.

Last year Hanken committed to be carbon neutral by 2030. As a step towards that goal, Hanken has now compensated for its calculated emissions from 2019.

Fresh results published by a research project led by Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki show that travel restrictions are one of the most effective methods to stop the spreading of Covid-19. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected economics on all levels in society. In order to ensure a more resilient and flexible society in the future it’s important for countries not to isolate themselves, but rather to take global regulatory actions through international agreements and that applies as much to fighting pandemics and climate change, said Topi Miettinen, Professor at Hanken School of Economics, during an online event at Hanken.

This spring, Hanken together with Umeå University has offered a new course focusing on collaboration across borders in the Kvarken region. The course has given the students insights about challenges and opportunities for companies in the Kvarken area.
