Hanken managed well during the financially challenging year 2022

The University Collegium of Hanken approved the financial statements for 2022 at its meeting on 8 May 2023. Hanken's operating result in 2022 was -2.9 million compared to the budgeted –3,0 million.

The result was a bit inferior compared to recent years, partly because operations have returned to normal after the pandemic and partly because the sharp rise in inflation was already present in the autumn of 2022. The negative operating result is covered as planned by withdrawals from Hanken's investment portfolio.

The net result differs significantly from recent years because the financial market was turbulent and we, like other universities, report the changes in market value at 100% in the profit and loss account. The result for 2022 was -16.4 million. Hanken's turnover for 2022 was EUR 25.4 million. The auditor’s report has been issued.

Int 2021 Hanken prepared, for the first time, a consolidated financial statement that included the subsidiary Fastighets Ab Hankens Isabella, with 80 student apartments in Jätkäsaari. The consolidated accounts for 2022 also includes the associated companies Hanken & SSE Executive Education Ab and Fastighets Ab Majsporten (about 40 student apartments in Arabianranta).

The annual report also contains plenty of staff statistics. The audit committee pointed to the statistics that show that a large number of teaching and research staff will be retiring over the next five years, the majority of whom also teach in Swedish.

Hanken's financial statements and annual report are available on Hanken's website. It will be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Culture within May.
