Plenary Session 5: On Happiness and Generosity

A reflective closing plenary on happiness and generosity, and their role in how people support and relate to one another. Drawing on perspectives beyond service research, the session highlights the broader positive possibilities of service in society. The session invites participants to carry these reflections forward and consider how they may inform their own choices and priorities in different contexts.

Janne Tienari is Professor of Management and Organization at Hanken School of Economics. His expertise lies in strategy work, and he approaches strategy with a people perspective. This includes human-AI interaction and how AI impacts upon management and leadership. Janne has authored several books, including Moomin Management: Redefining Generosity, co-authored with Paul Savage (Bristol University Press, 2024).

Micael Dahlen is a professor at the Stockholm School of Economics, in Economics and in Wellbeing, Welfare and Happiness (first professorship of its kind!). In his academic career, he rose rapidly to take up a leading position in the intersecting areas of consumer behavior, human happiness, welfare, marketing and creativity. Dahlen is ranked number 2 in the world among researchers in his field (The Journal of Business Research, September 2021), and was nominated for the Business Professor of the Year Award by The Economist’s Intelligence Unit
