Hanken has a new personnel instruction

Clearly defined career paths have become important in the rectuitment of both national and international top scholars as well as in trying to keep the faculty that already work at Hanken. That’s why Hanken has updated its personnel instruction.

According to the new instruction Hanken will introduce two parallel tenure tracks, a research track and a lecturer track. Tenure track is an internationally well known concept according to which Hanken will guarantee promotions from level 2 onwards (assistant professor/lecturer) if the person fulfills certain, pre-defined criteria. The highest level in the research track is professor and in the lecturer track it’s senior university lecturer.

“Hanken has a clear goal to be an accredited, international business school and the introduction of the Tenure Track-system is an important step on that path”, says Timo Korkeamäki, Dean of Research.

There will be no changes to the existing positions of Hanken staff and their employment and qualifications will follow the old personnel instruction. Rector will annually announce a number of positions vacant and they will be transferred to the new personnel instruction. There will be a strategic assessment prior to the announcement of vacancies.

“The new personnel instruction clarifies significantly the career paths for coming Assistant Professors and Lecturers”, says HR-Director Elina Stadigh.

The notable change in comparison to the previous personnel instruction is that Hanken now primarily recruits to clearly defined career paths for both assistant professors and lecturers.
