This year the Fazer Award goes to Alice Saraiva. The €15,000 award is given to a Hanken student who demonstrates strong values and good academic performance.

Sonja Sarasvuo, assistant professor in marketing, has received the Waldemar von Frenckell Foundation’s award in business and economics, amounting to EUR 30,000. The award, which is granted to different scientific disciplines each year, supports her research in marketing and brand strategy.

Hanken School of Economics’ new diploma programmes offer a flexible opportunity to develop expertise in topical and relevant areas such as intellectual property law, corporate responsibility and supply chain management. The programme begins in autumn 2026.

Individual happiness contributes significantly to the overall health and prosperity of society. This was one of the key takeaways from the first Nordic Happiness Summit, held at Hanaholmen in Espoo, Finland on 24-25 March.

Companies in regions where climate change denial is widespread among the people are often the most reluctant to tackle climate issues. These companies impose more costs on society and are more likely to commit federal violations related to environmental issues, according to a study conducted by researchers at Hanken School of Economics and the University of Vaasa.

The business incubator Hanken Business Lab at Hanken School of Economics has been granted €750,000 by the Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth Foundation for the next five years. The agreement also includes a reservation for the same amount for an additional five years, resulting in a total of €1.5 million. A record number of almost 150 people applied to the 2023 Hanken mentorship programme. Mentor Yrsa Landsdorff and mentee Wilma Leskinen are two of them. The mentorship programme has given Landsdorff valuable insights about the younger generation, and Leskinen has successfully achieved the goal she set herself at the start of the year.

The Board of the Hanken Support Foundation has appointed Mia Bengts as Ombudsman for the Foundation from 1 August 2023. Mia Bengts is a Hanken alumna and has a law degree from the University of Helsinki. The Foundation's current Ombudsman Paul Taimitarha will retire on 1 September 2023.

Through the transformed Hanken International Talent initiative, all international degree students can now receive support for integrating into Finnish society and working life. We spoke to two students who have experienced the benefits.

“It's been about 15 years since I was at Hanken, and I needed a few more tools in my toolbox. Something tangible since questions around strategy and leadership are coming up in my work daily.” These comments stem from President and CEO of the Ahola Group, Ida Saavalainen, who currently attends the Hanken Executive MBA programme.

Every year, the Student Union chooses the Lecturer of the Year at SHS's annual party and SSHV's annual party. Associate professor Pia Polsa has been voted as Lecturer of the Year in Helsinki and received the award at the SHS annual party on 24 February 2023.

"We have always done it that way" is an expression that Joel Sunabacka, head of the Bank of Åland in Vasa, Hankenalumnus, and winner of the competition Young Leader of the Year in Western Finland, cannot stand.

The Climate University network, which Hanken is a member of and is coordinated by the University of Helsinki, has formed a teaching cooperation contract between 18 universities. With these new contracts, a majority of Finnish university students can take the network’s climate and sustainability -themed courses.

Hanken alumnus Kurt Björklund donates one million euros to the ongoing fundraising campaign Count on Hanken. With his donation, Björklund wishes to inspire Hanken's alumni to participate in the campaign and thereby strengthen Hanken's core activities.

After many years in the oil industry, Linda Tallberg changed her career and started researching human-animal relations at work. She is often asked the question: what do animals have to do with business?

Rasmus Öhman, 28, graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in accounting from Hanken in Helsinki. He continued to Aalto University where he became a Master of Economics in 2019. Since October 2019, he has been working at Deloitte AG in Zurich.

Within the agreement between Hanken School of Economics and the Fulbright Center, three US scholars will visit Hanken during spring 2021.
