Hanken appointed Henrik Ehrnrooth as Alumnus of the Year

Hanken School of Economics annually appoints the Alumnus of the Year, a Hanken alumnus, who has been recognised for activities in society during the past year. The alumnus has also maintained an active relationship with the university after graduation.

This year Hanken’s Rector, together with the Alumni Council, has appointed Henrik Ehrnrooth, CEO of KONE Corporation, as Alumnus of the Year. Through his engagement in Hanken’s activities, Henrik Ehrnrooth is an active link between Hanken and the business community, and serves as a role model for both current students and other alumni.

- During the past years Hanken has shown remarkable development and is today, according to me, the most international and leading business school in Finland. I am happy that I have been able to support this development through my different roles and commissions for Hanken. This is a commitment I will definitely continue with in the future, says a proud and honoured Henrik Ehrnrooth.

Henrik Ehrnrooth graduated from Hanken in 1994 with finance as major. Since then he has pursued a career in the finance industry at for example Goldman Sachs in London. In 2009 he returned to Finland to a position as CFO for KONE Corporation. In 2014 he succeeded Matti Alahuhta as CEO of the company.

- Henrik Ehrnrooth has supported Hanken in many ways for several years and has always given his time to both students and alumni. With this honorary appointment, Hanken wants to acknowledge impact makers in the alumni network and express our gratitude for their commitment. We also want to publicly emphasise that the person is a Hanken alumnus, says Rector Karen Spens.

The recognition was announced during the annual homecoming day Hankendagen on 9 October 2015. This was the 7th time Hanken appointed the Alumnus of the Year. Previous years the honour has been bestowed upon Veronica Lindholm, Ole Johansson, Philip Aminoff, Dag Sandås, Catharina Stackelberg and Anna Häggblom.
