Janne Tienari joins Hanken as Professor of Management and Organisation

PhD Janne Tienari has been appointed Professor of Management and Organisation at Hanken School of Economics.

Tienari previously worked as professor of Organisations and Management at Aalto University School of Business. He also has prior international experience from visiting positions at e.g. Stockholm University. In addition to his professorship he will also be involved in the future gender research institute at Hanken.

“I am excited to make the move across the street and to start working as professor of management and organisation at Hanken. My two main areas of interest are strategy work and gender studies. Hanken hosts a vibrant community of scholars and activities in both areas, so moving here was a fantastic opportunity for me”, says Janne Tienari. “I’m looking forward to joining a business school that has a strong institutional base and that is international and forward-looking”, he adds.

Professor Tienari has a Doctor of Science degree in economics and business administration from Helsinki School of Economics. His main research focus lies on strategy work, organisational change and gender research. He has also authored several books for a popular audience. His recent books are on management and the future, strategy work, and management and appearances. Tienari was elected Researcher of the Year at Aalto University School of Economics in 2010.

“With his vast research background, Professor Janne Tienari strengthens Hanken’s base in strategy and gender research. Janne is an internationally well-known researcher with an extensive network”, says Sören Kock, Head of the Department of Management and Organisation.

During his career, Tienari has been teaching at both basic academic levels and doctoral programmes and has an ample experience as supervisor. In addition, he has also experience of teaching within executive education programmes. He is a steering group member in several programmes, such as Liideri for the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation (Tekes) and the Dialogi-project for Ellun Kanat. His term of office began on 1 November 2016.
