Hanken researcher Kun Huang receives award from European Parliament

Kun Huang received the European International Women Leadership Award 2019 in the European Parliament in honour of International Women’s Day in Brussels.

The award is given by the European Parliament, and is about paying tribute to outstanding achievements of outstanding women. Kun Huang receives the award for her success in a field where there is a male dominance, according to the award statement.

“We all know this world of finance and banking is one of the very last bastions of (nearly) exclusive male dominance. Nevertheless, she succeeded in that field, specialized in financial modelling for financial risk management and opened a new way to reduce the risks of another stock market crash like in October 1987 - through her PhD ‘Implied Volatility and Option Pricing Models’,” it says the justification for Huang’s award.

“I am grateful for the European Parliament for organizing such an important forum on this remarkable day, International Womens Day. I am greatly honoured to be included among such a group of outstanding women”, says Huang.

Huang is one of eight women to receive the European International Women Leadership Award 2019 in Brussels 7 March.

Kun Huang defended her doctoral dissertation, “Implied Volatility and Option Pricing Models”, at Hanken School of Economics on 8 February 2019.
