The aim of this course is to introduce the doctoral research process to students. The course is a joint course between several departments. Doctoral students of all subjects are welcome to the course. The course is also mandatory in some majors, check with your exam supervisor if this applies to you.
This is a joint course between Marketing, Management and Organisation, and Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility.
This course is compulsory for all doctoral students admitted to the doctoral programmes in Marketing, Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility, Management and Organisation, and Entrepreneurship, Management and Organisation.
You are aware of the requirements of a doctoral thesis and have the skills to manage your doctoral studies.
- identify the requirements on a doctoral thesis
- present your ideas in front of an academic audience
- discuss and critically evaluate academic work
- understand and manage the process of publishing
- apply the principles of research ethics in your research
Apart from information about the introduction of the course, all course information will be transmitted through platform on Moodle.
All course participants need to 1) sign up for the course in WebOodi, and 2) sign into Moodle.
Various individual assignments, group discussions, lectures and workshops.
Students from Vasa need to travel to Helsinki for participating in the classes.
Participation in the introductory lecture is mandatory.

Should be taken as the very first doctoral course.
Individual and group assignments, term paper, presentations. Evaluation pass/fail.
In order to pass the course, you need to pass all assignments/presentations and your term paper needs to be approved by your supervisor.
All assignments and all parts of the course need to be passed to get the credits. All parts of the course need to be passed in the same study year.
