Hanken offers students the opportunity to participate in the ENGAGE.EU Winter Schools, which are organized in January and February 2026 by NHH, University of Mannheim and WU Vienna. Application deadline is 15 Oct 2025. Students can apply to multiple Winter Schools but can only be offered a spot at one.

In early May, Hanken students Aida Aledin, Emil Zittra, and Marcus Karino made history by winning the Nordic finals of the L’Oréal Brandstorm competition. As the first Finnish team ever to qualify for the international finals in Paris, they returned home with fresh insights and valuable experiences from the event.

Hanken's mentorship programme continues to attract a large number of applications. Over the past year, a record number of pairs, 89 in total, have had regular meetings both in Helsinki and Vaasa. Mentors Millie Ahlskog and Stephanie Bardy, who were previously a mentor/mentee pair, share their experiences and explain why they highly recommend applying to the programme.

Nationally 28 universities are asking their students about Exam, the e-exam system used in the Examinariums, the rooms dedicated to e-exams. What do you think about it, what is good, what is bad? Johanna Karanko and Nicola Lindertz are Hanken alumni who both became ambassadors. Karanko is currently stationed in Brazil while Lindertz serves in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. Among other things, they are working to promote the interests of Finnish companies and they have recognised many business opportunities in South America.

Approximately a quarter of the students at Hanken have Finnish as their mother tongue. Juho Rasa is one of them and he has a message for all Finnish speakers considering studying in Swedish: “You will thank yourself. I have already done so many times.”

In recent years Hanken School of Economics has welcomed about 80 new international students each autumn. Most international students join Hanken’s Master’s programmes in English, which offer major studies in the main business-school disciplines. For the 2023-2024 academic year, Hanken has international students from 35 countries around the world.

All Hanken students and staff are invited to Leadership insights - a morning session with the Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in the Assembly Hall in Helsinki on Monday 27 November at 9.40 am. The Swedish Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel will visit Hanken in Helsinki on Thursday 21 September 2023 at 11-12:30. The visit requires some special arrangements to ensure the safety during the visit.

Hanken doctoral student Joosua Virtanen has been awarded a Fulbright Pre-Doctoral Research Fellowship. Virtanen is one of three Finns awarded this prestigious one-year grant and will travel to the University of California, Berkeley this autumn to conduct research related to his doctoral thesis.

PhD Johanna Gummerus has been appointed as the new Professor of Marketing at Hanken School of Economics. Professor Gummerus has a long and warm relationship with Hanken. She graduated from the university in 2011 and enjoys it so much that she has worked here ever since.

Rasmus Öhman, 28, graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in accounting from Hanken in Helsinki. He continued to Aalto University where he became a Master of Economics in 2019. Since October 2019, he has been working at Deloitte AG in Zurich.
