The research project, led by Associate Professor Tapani Rinta-Kahila at Hanken School of Economics, investigates why artificial intelligence (AI) systems used by governments sometimes fail, causing harm to citizens and triggering legal challenges, and how such risks can be recognised and prevented.

When Stefan Larsson from Sweden contacted Hanken professor Christian Grönroos 25 years ago to ask if he could take a course from him at Hanken, he probably couldn't have imagined that he would bring the knowledge from Hanken to one of the world's top fashion houses.

The LSEG License expiration date has been returned to 14 days. Also, the issues regarding the self-registration has now been fixed! There are also new restrictions on how many Screener deals you can download at once.

At the end of 2023, a well-being survey was conducted among bachelor's and master's students at Hanken. The survey shows good result.

Demand for agricultural commodities in the EU are driving land use change in biodiversity-rich countries in for example Africa and Latin America, leading to major biodiversity losses. Hanken School of Economics is part of a large EU-project that aims to generate new knowledge and tools on how to make agrifood systems more sustainable.

PhD Johanna Gummerus has been appointed as the new Professor of Marketing at Hanken School of Economics. Professor Gummerus has a long and warm relationship with Hanken. She graduated from the university in 2011 and enjoys it so much that she has worked here ever since.

According to a recent survey, student well-being has increased significantly during the autumn semester as Hanken has been able to reopen for normal activities. Yet there are also students, especially at bachelor level, who feel both lonely and want support with their studies.

Academics in management and organization studies today have been driven into focusing predominantly on building a CV and developing networks, securing funding and producing articles published in high-ranked journals, all of which supports the university’s competitive position in global rankings. As a result, we see academics who neglect their own life in terms of material, emotional or familial sustenance, and social relations. Instead, they devote all their time to precarious work.

In the most recent alumni survey, nearly every respondent stated that they have a positive attitude towards their alma mater, and that they are proud to be associated with Hanken. "The new Hanken is characterised by simplicity" was the headline on the front page of Hufvudstadsbladet (HBL) exactly 70 years ago, on 5 December 1952. It is due to be launched into space in just over a year, with drawings by children and young people on board on the satellite. The small satellite is the result of cooperation across the Kvarken. Many countries in Europe are struggling to achieve higher vaccination coverage in the fight against covid-19. This has raised the question of how more people could be motivated to take the vaccine. A new study, which Hanken School of Economics has been involved in and which was published in the scientific journal Science, shows that a small payment equivalent to 20 euros made more people get vaccinated in Sweden.

In collaboration with Novia University of Applied Sciences and Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMK), Hanken is currently calling for expressions of interest in developing hydrogen infrastructure in the Ostrobothnia region, as part of the H2 Ecosystem Roadmap. To freelance alongside paid work is becoming more and more popular. When should one consider delegating the accounting to an agency or consider whether it would be more profitable to establish a company? And what does one have to think of when hiring staff?

Within the agreement between Hanken School of Economics and the Fulbright Center, three US scholars will visit Hanken during spring 2021. Professors Nezih Altay, Brian Gibson and Leigh Anne Liu will conduct research at Hanken and hold a public seminar on their findings. Gamification is one of the buzzwords in today’s societies, and it seems there are no limits in what all benefits and new areas of life one can conquer with it. The new book edited by Mikko Vesa from Hanken lightens up the connections between gamification and the field of management and organization.

On 12 March 2016, Helsinki GSE published a report which, with the help of Finnish register material, analyses the connection between the transition to distance education in the second stage and the prevalence of coronavirus infection in Finland at the end of 2020.

The majority of entrance examinations will be held in May–June. Changes to the manner of administering the examinations are made only if required by regulations issued by the authorities.

Why are universities holding on-location entrance examinations during the pandemic?
After carrying out careful assessment and risk analyses, Finnish universities have concluded that holding entrance examinations which require applicants’ physical presence and also involve careful safety arrangements is the best way to implement a fair student admission procedure that takes into account subject-specific special requirements and treats all applicants equally.
