Hanken School of Economics has been granted over 150,000 euros from the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Ostrobothnia for a research project aimed at developing tourism solutions that are more accessible, sustainable, and community-based. The project's pilot area is the World Heritage site in the Kvarken Archipelago.

Hanken has signed new student exchange agreements with Curtin University in Perth, Australia, Faculty of Business Administration at Université Laval in Québec, Canada, INSPER in Sao Paulo, Brasil and IPADE Business School in Monterrey, Mexico.

Hanken has signed new student exchange agreements with Esade Ramon Llull University in Barcelona, Spain and University of Aberdeen i Aberdeen, United Kingdom. You can apply for an exchange at these new partner universities for autumn semester 2025 as soon as the application round opens mid-december. Deadline for applications is 3 February 2025. The word innovation suggests the idea of improving the functional or design features of products and services to make brand offerings useful for consumers, but new research reveals another kind of innovations that positively impact consumers’ perceptions of brands.

The first ever ENGAGE.EU Europitch took place at Hanken School of Economics at the end of November. The event brought together the best of university related start-ups from across Europe to coach them for their participation at Slush and for future international growth.

Many entrepreneurs need to face significant challenges and make sacrifices, or navigate failure and negative identity for a prolonged period of time.

Helsinki Design Week is the largest design and architecture festival in the Nordic countries and takes place 8-17.9.2023. The programme offers over 100 events and for the first time Hanken's main building is also part of the festival.

The University Collegium of Hanken approved the financial statements for 2022 at its meeting on 8 May 2023. Hanken's operating result in 2022 was -2.9 million compared to the budgeted –3,0 million.

The Finnish Innovation Index (FII) is a national indicator of the perceived innovativeness of companies among Finnish consumers. The annual ranking conducted at Hanken School of Economics lists the most innovative companies according to Finnish consumers.

KvarkenSat is a joint small satellite between the Ostrobothnian provinces and Västerbotten. It is due to be launched into space in just over a year, with drawings by children and young people on board on the satellite. The small satellite is the result of cooperation across the Kvarken. It also demonstrates that the conquest of space is not just for space superpowers.

Food security is defined as having sufficient access to food in order to maintain a healthy life. The mainstream approach to ensuring sufficient food and nutrition security is focused on production and consumption. New research shows that food security research and action need to emphasise distribution and retail in addition to agricultural production.

New research shows that a service-providing organisation facilitates the well-being of individuals by supporting, socialising, and empowering them. Technology, service environment and design, and internal practices and arrangements also contribute to the individuals’ well-being.

During the spring, a course in cultural sustainability and communications was organized for the first time at Hanken. The course was a response to the students' interest in courses in the humanities.

Unequal access to drinking water in different geographical contexts is embedded in political, racialized, classed, and gendered hierarchies. Technologies and innovations aimed at solving drinking water problems only tend to gloss over the bigger issues.

Within the agreement between Hanken School of Economics and the Fulbright Center, three US scholars will visit Hanken during spring 2021. Professors Nezih Altay, Brian Gibson and Leigh Anne Liu will conduct research at Hanken and hold a public seminar on their findings. Quantum is a versatile meeting place that offers access to company and financial databases and allows for the handling of big data. Modern technology makes it possible to stream all classes and other events, as well as allowing for keeping up with real-time financial news. Quantum, made possible by donations, opened in February 2020.

Political discussions about whether to merge Hanken in Vaasa with Åbo Akademi University or with the University of Vaasa have been ongoing ever since Hanken in Vaasa was established in 1980. Today Sören Kock, dean and rector’s representative in Vaasa, sees the possibility of Hanken in Vaasa remaining as Hanken in a positive light. “I find it fascinating that a Triple-Crown accredited university manages to operate in two locations,” Kock remarks.

The new eight storey building in Arabianranta, Helsinki, combines student housing and state of the art sports facilities.The building accomodates apartments on the lower levels and a sports center including a fitness gym and a test laboratory on top.

Hanken is involved in two building projects and now the first house is ready and accepted new tenants from 1 February 2019. There are still apartments available and open for applications.

The SCANCOR-Weatherhead Partnership at Harvard University invites applications for fall 2019. The project facilitates scholarly residencies at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, at Harvard’s campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In August a new self service portal for Hanken network users will provide services to renew passwords, reset forgotten passwords and sign user agreements.

Hanken scores very well in the latest exchange student survey among students that visited Hanken during spring 2018. All of the 54 respondents would recommend Hanken as host university for exchange studies, which is an exceptional score.

The foundation stone of the new eight storey building on the Arcada Campus in Arabianranta, Helsinki, was put up on 17 January 2018. The new building will have have 103 student apartments and state of the art sports facilities.

On Tuesday 31 January Hanken Business Lab – Stugan at Hanken in Vaasa opens its doors. Hanken Business Lab is a platform for students, alumni and other partners , who share an interest in entrepreneurship.
