New research shows that African governments’ external borrowing can enhance corporate access to capital, not hinder it. The reason is that external debt enhances market confidence. Hanken conducted a CO2 calculation development project of its 2023 carbon footprint and recalculated the base year 2018 emissions.

From 2025, universities will have nine national entrance exams, which will allow applicants to apply for a wide range of different subjects and universities. At the same time, the timetable for the entrance exams will be relaxed so that those selected by certificate-based admissions will no longer have to prepare for and take the entrance exams.

A new EU-directive requires that all end-of-life textiles, meaning clothes that can’t be used any more, are being collected separately, sorted and then reused or recycled. According to Associate Professor Anna Aminoff textile recycling processes, including separate collection and sorting, are expensive and complicated, and puts a lot of responsibility on the consumers – but things are hopefully slowly getting better.

The Board of the Hanken Support Foundation has appointed Mia Bengts as Ombudsman for the Foundation from 1 August 2023. Mia Bengts is a Hanken alumna and has a law degree from the University of Helsinki. The Foundation's current Ombudsman Paul Taimitarha will retire on 1 September 2023.

Hanken student Henrik Helenius has been awarded the Anders Wall scholarship of approximately 20,000 euros for having excelled in entrepreneurship and creative thinking. The Climate University network, which Hanken is a member of and is coordinated by the University of Helsinki, has formed a teaching cooperation contract between 18 universities. With these new contracts, a majority of Finnish university students can take the network’s climate and sustainability -themed courses.

KvarkenSat is a joint small satellite between the Ostrobothnian provinces and Västerbotten. It is due to be launched into space in just over a year, with drawings by children and young people on board on the satellite. The small satellite is the result of cooperation across the Kvarken. It also demonstrates that the conquest of space is not just for space superpowers.

However, during the last year, huge steps towards digitalisation has been taken in Finland – sometimes even bigger than necessary.
