Diploma programmes

Hanken offers Diploma Programmes starting 2026. Diploma programmes are a unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge in a subject area.

Hanken School of Economics offers the following Diploma Programmes:

Diploma programmes are intended for professionals who want to deepen their expertise, or for those in the final stages of their university studies who wish to sharpen their CV ahead of entering working life. After completing a Diploma Programme, you receive a diploma and also gain the opportunity to call yourself a Hanken alumna/alumnus.

Diploma programmes are non-degree study modules that can be completed within the Open University. You must separately register for a study right within the Diploma Programmes and fulfill possible entry requirements, read more about the registration under the menu Registration. Diploma Programmes do not lead to an official degree in Finland, it is a study module consisting of 30 ECTS.

The registration takes place through Studyinfo.fi during a separate registration period. You must live in Finland to be able to take part in the Diploma Programmes. Notice you cannot get a residence permit to participate in a Diploma Programme. Studies are offered onsite at Hanken and examination generally takes place onsite. The Diploma Programmes have different registration requirements, read more about the requirements below.

For Hanken students/alumni

If a degree student enrolled at Hanken wishes to take courses from a diploma programme, they may do so as elective studies included in their degree. In this case, these students will not receive a separate diploma for the completed diploma studies, as the courses will instead be incorporated into their ongoing degree.

Hanken degree students who wish to participate in a diploma programme may do so after graduating from Hanken, provided that they have not already completed the mandatory courses included in the diploma programme as part of their degree, nor have they completed such a large portion of the elective courses in the diploma programme that they would be unable to meet the requirements for obtaining a diploma.

After you have completed the mandatory 30 ECTS within the Diploma Programme, of which at least 20 ECTS are on Masters level you can get a Diploma. You will also be invited to Hanken's alumni network after completed Diploma. Diploma programmes do not lead to an official degree in Finland, it is a study module consisting of at least 30 ECTS.

Once you have completed all the courses you wish to include in the diploma programme and have met the requirements for receiving a diploma, you can apply to have a diploma issued to you based on your application in Sisu; see the instructions here. Please note that this is not a degree, but only a diploma certifying studies completed at the Open University. You will also receive an official transcript of records.

    • No. Studies with a separate right to study do not qualify you for student housing.

The frequency of lectures depends on the courses you choose and how you spread them over the two years, but this is not a program that can be completed remotely. There are no intensive blocks; instead, lectures are evenly distributed across the weeks. Some courses have lectures once a week, while others have them several days a week. • How do I know if I meet the prerequisites for relevant studies?
    • Hanken’s Admissions Services/Open University cannot guide you on which courses count as relevant for eligibility. Your previous studies are assessed by academic staff after the application period has ended. You can find the requirements above under the subheading “Application.”
  • When will I know if I have been admitted?
    • Results for Corporate Responsibility are usually published in mid-June, and results for Intellectual Property Law and Supply Chain Management are typically published in the first half of August. You can follow your results via the My Studyinfo service.
  • When and how do I pay the fee?
    • If you are accepted into the diploma program, you will receive a payment link by email directing you to Paytrail. Payment can be made via bank transfer from a Finnish bank or through common payment methods such as MobilePay, Siirto, MasterCard, or Visa. Payment instructions are included in the same message confirming your place in the program.
  • Can I pay the fee on behalf of someone else?
    • Yes, the fee can be paid for another person.
  • Can Hanken issue an invoice for the diploma program?
    • No, invoices are not issued for diploma programs. If your company is paying the fee, it can be paid with a corporate credit card, or you can request reimbursement from your employer.
  • Can I pay in installments?
    • No, installment payments are not available.
  • Do I have to attend the orientation session?

  • Where can I get guidance if I need help with my studies?
    • You can contact the Open University after attending the orientation session. Contact details are available here.
