What is Hanken JobShadow?
Hanken JobShadow offers international Hanken students the opportunity to visit an organisation or company in Finland for one day. The aim is to give you insights into Finnish working life, workplace culture, and everyday professional situations.
The idea is also to create a two‑way exchange: while you learn from the organisation, you also get the chance to share your own perspectives, experiences, and ideas. This can give the host company fresh insights and new ways of looking at their work, teams or practices.
The JobShadow day is planned jointly by the host organisation and the student, based on the host's possibilities and the student's interests. The Hanken organising team provides support throughout the preparation process.
Who can apply for Hanken Job shadow day?
You can apply for Hanken JobShadow if you fulfil the following criteria:
- You are an international degree student at Hanken at bachelor level or master’s level. 2nd year bachelor’s and master’s students are prioritised.
- At the time of applying, you are registered as present at Hanken.
- You are interested in visiting and getting introduced to Finnish work culture through a one‑day visit at a company or organisation in Finland.
- You are willing to actively participate, ask questions and reflect on what you learn.
- You can commit to the agreed date and time with your assigned host organisation. You and the host organisation will agree on a suitable date.

How does it work?
The JobShadow process follows certain steps to ensure a meaningful experience for both students and host organisations. Below is an overview of the timeline:
- Application period (deadline 15.3.2026)
Students apply to be part of Hanken JobShadow during the official application period. Note that places are limited, and students are selected based on motivation and the relevance of their field of study. Please fill out the application carefully here.
- Shortlisting of students
After the application period closes, the Hanken organisers review all applications and shortlist students based on their motivation, field of study, and fit with available host organisations. Please note that the host organisation can choose to receive between 1-3 students.
- Matching with host organisations
Shortlisted students are matched with suitable companies or organisations according to interests, study background, and availability of hosts. Both the student(s) and the host will receive information about the match and the next steps. All applicants are informed whether we have found a match for them or not.
- Preparations
Before the JobShadow day, students and host organisation receive practical guidelines and suggestions on how to plan and prepare ahead of the visit. Students may be asked to prepare questions or reflect on what they aim to learn.
- JobShadow day
Students spend one full day at the host organisation, observing daily work life, learning about workplace culture, and interacting with professionals. The JobShadow day is also an opportunity for students to share their own perspectives and experiences and offer fresh insights to the hosting team.
- Follow-up
After the JobShadow day, both students and hosts are invited to reflect on the experience through a short follow-up form or meeting. This helps us organiser improve the programme and understand the impact.
