Finnish Innovation Index 2025

The Finnish Innovation Index (FII) measures company innovativeness from a consumer perspective among customers who have purchased or used the products of the included companies during the last six months. Innovativeness is measured in two ways: commercial innovation entails that consumers perceive a company as a game changer and creative pioneer in its field, and social innovation refers to the extent to which companies through innovations benefit society and the environment.
Winners are selected based on the results of a national survey from over 12,000 individual responses from 4300 customers who evaluated 80 companies on key metrics, including innovation, customer loyalty, attractiveness, and social innovation.

Our findings show that consumers are skeptical of companies that appear to innovate solely out of self-interest. However, when firms are perceived as motivated by a genuine desire to improve customers’ wellbeing or to address environmental and social challenges, they tend to be perceived as more innovative. In other words, purpose-driven innovation—whether customer-focused or sustainability-oriented—is increasingly valued.
The Most Innovative Companies in Finland 2025 are:
From the findings it can be seen that the focus on sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives, everyday relevance, and responsiveness to consumer needs continues to resonate with the public.
Since its inception in 2021, the FII has demonstrated that Finnish companies are broadly recognised as highly innovative, with leaders across sectors like fashion, design, and lifestyle, food, and technology
Driving Growth through Innovation - Launch of FII 2025
The results of the FII 2025 were presented at the event Driving Growth Through Innovation at Hanken on May 6, 2025.
During the event, a panel discussion featured retailers who have shown strong progress in the Innovation Index—specifically Lidl and Motonet.
A key takeaway from the discussion, which included representatives from Ikea, Lidl, and Motonet, was that fostering innovation requires listening to frontline employees who interact directly with customers, as well as creating channels through which customers can easily provide feedback.
CEO of Hanken SSE, Mark Hinnenberg moderating the FII 2025 panel consisting of Timo Hulmi, CEO IKEA Finland ,Professor Kristina Heinonen, Toni Stigzelius, CEO Broman group (Motonet) and Conor Boyle, CEO Lidl Finland.
The FII 2025 winner, IKEA, has consistently ranked among the top 10 most innovative companies in Finland since the FII began in 2021. Its strong innovative performance is echoed also in other countries using the same methodology highlighting IKEA’s sustained commitment to customer-focused and sustainable innovation.

We are excited for the latest results from the FII – we consider this as important feedback that we are on the right path. Innovation at IKEA is about making everyday life better through smart design, with sustainability and affordability always in mind. We focus on solutions that are practical, inspiring, and accessible to many people. We're proud to lead with purpose — offering real value while caring for people and the planet
