Do you need help with information retrieval for your studies?

Make an appointment for help and advice in information retrieval! We can advise you on choosing search words, using different search methods, finding relevant databases or referencing.

You can also get help in using the thesis templates for your master’s or doctoral thesis.

Book an individual tutorial or a joint one. Please suggest a date at least three days in advance. We will contact you by e-mail to confirm the time. Make an appointment by e-mail to Due to Covid restrictions all tutoring is given via Teams.

We also arrange a Write Night twice a year. It includes workshops on help with e.g. referencing, information retrieval, formatting and how to get started with academic writing.

Training in Information Retrieval

Take part in the  library's short courses or book time for tutoring. We offer classes in referencing, information retreival, financial databases and Office programs.

The library offers training and workshops on topics related to information retrieval. You can sign up for a training in information retrieval for your thesis, reference management, training in financial databases or workshops in using the thesis template.

Google Scholar
You have to activate Library links in Google Scholar in order to reach the full text versions of articles in licensed databases, when out of Hanken's network.

Ontologies and subject index (thesaurus)

The term lists help you find keywords when you search in library directories and other databases.

Allfo - general Finnish ontology (in Finnish Yleinen suomalainen ontologia - YSO) is a three-language ontology containing mainly general concept.
Helecon asiasanasto - subject words in Finnish and English in the economic field. In the Hanna library directory, English subject words from Helecon asiasanasto are used. Maintained by the School of Business at Aalto University.

Finnish thesaurus and ontology service, which contains ontologies and subject registers in different subject areas.

The National Library's subject glossary EKS
Subject register in law and social sciences.

The Business Source Complete (Ebsco), ABI / Inform and PsychArticles - Thesaurus (ProQuest) databases have their own subject registers that can be used for keyword help.
