Change of major

It is possible to change your major subject during your studies. Here you will find information on how to apply for the change, what requirements apply, and who you can contact for support.

How to change your major subject

First, discuss your plan to change your major subject with your degree supervisor.
Fill in the form Application for change of major subject: PhD program

Note that the subjects Finance and Economics have specific admission requirements. These requirements are the same as for applicants to Hanken’s PhD program. You can find the admission requirements on the page Apply to the PhD program.

After you submit your application

Once you have submitted your application, an internal process begins to assess whether it is possible for you to change your major subject.

If there is no degree supervisor available in the desired major subject, we can unfortunately not approve your application. In that case, you will continue your studies in your current major subject.
If your application is approved, we will appoint a new degree supervisor for you.

The PhD programme coordinator will contact you by email once the decision has been made.
