Sustainable Development Goals
A theme week around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be held for the second time at Hanken in Helsinki and Vaasa from 19th to 26th November 2019. Students, staff and stakeholders are warmly welcome on board to collectively realise the global goals and sustainable development. All exhibitions and events are free of charge!

Driven by our strategy HANKEN 2025 and our commitment to Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), Hanken wants to take charge and push the boundaries in building a more responsible and sustainable society through collaboration, creativity and innovation. With the theme week around SDGs, our aim is to mobilise, engage and inspire our staff, students and members of public to work towards solving some of biggest challenges our times and to achieve the SDGs.

The program of the week is designed to tackle different SDGs with a specific focus on SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals.

Bring your unused clothes to donation boxes In Vaasa!

Recycle your clothing and bring them to Hanken for donation. Star of Hope/ Hoppets stjärna Opens in new window will be collecting the donation. Please only donate items that you would be happy to buy yourself: undamaged, clean, and fit for sale. The donation box will be stationed in the foyer of Vaasa building for the whole week!

Responsible Organising Conference #3 – Let’s Transform Society! Opens in new window

Climate crisis, fake news, inequality & social exclusion, unsustainable consumption are some of the biggest challenges of our times! … The time to act is now. Do you want to get a deeper understanding along with research-based insights on these challenges and many more? Fancy taking part in transforming the world for the better with people from different walks of life?

Join us to embark on a collective journey to transform society on 19th November at the 3rd edition of Responsible Organising Conference!

In the morning plenary session, Karin Berglund (Professor at Stockholm Business School), Katja Toropainen (Founder of Inklusiiv, ex-Chief Curator at Slush), and Antti Nousjoki (one of the Architects of Oodi Library), will discuss about “Innovation and Inclusion”. In the afternoon, 10 workshops in 5 parallel sessions, are organized on various sustainability issues such as sustainable Consumption, Fake News; Sustainability Reporting…targeted at different Sustainable Development Goals.

The Morning plenary session will be held in the Assembly Hall (Aula) and workshops in different rooms in Helsinki. Morning Plenary session will be streamed in the Auditorium 142 in Vaasa.

Hanken Volunteer Work: Get involved and enrich yourself!

In search of an enjoyable, meaningful and socially sustainable way of spending your free time?

If you want a different kind of break that is refreshing and rewarding, be one of the guests at informal get-togethers in the Folkhälsan Seniorhus at Mannerheimintie 97. Spending half an hour with senior citizens is half an hour of fun, engagement and sound investment in interpersonal and intergenerational skills.

On Nov 21, Hanken volunteer students will be hosts and hostesses during the visit of some senior residents to the university. The schedule is as follows:

13.30                 Rector Karen Spens’ welcome speech 

13.45                 Johan Vestin’s guided tour of the university’s art and SDG exhibit

14.30                 coffee and get-together 

Why: Acquaint yourself with volunteer work and the cooperation with Folkhälsan.

180 degrees consulting Helsinki, a student consulting organisation is organising a case competition with Moonaliiku Opens in new window as an NGO case organisation.

The case competition will take place in Helsinki in room A309.

Green office breakfast: how can we together contribute to a more sustainable and Green Hanken?

In Helsinki, Petra Laiti, Sami and climate change activist and current Hanken student, will inspire us to think about how could Hanken be more sustainable overall. After that, Hanken's Green Office team will present current actitivities, results and future plans (including that of going carbon neutral by 2030). To conclude, there will be an open session, where Hanken staff members can voice their own ideas of what could Hanken do better.

In Vaasa, Otso Sillanaukee Opens in new window , former Hanken student and author of book Zero Waste jäähyväiset jätteille will talk about his journey and provide with some tips and tricks for a more sustainable and waste-free lifestyle (TBC).

The breakfast will be held in the Business Lab/Torget in Helsinki (08.45-10:15) and staff room on second floor in Vaasa (9:00-10:00).

What Is Going In The World? An Open Interactive Workshop on IPSP

You are warmly welcome to the half-day Workshop on IPSP (The International Panel on Social Progress) – organised by Responsible Organising and the GODESS Institute at Hanken in Helsinki in Auditorium Maxen.

Within the afternoon, there will be moving interactive workgroups on such topics as: change through work; change through community; gender and diversity; values and responsibilities; the future. The event will be facilitated by Jeff Hearn, Professor Emeritus at Hanken and Co-director of GODESS Institute, Charlotta Niemistö,Project Leader and Co-director of GODESS Institute , Greta Steenvoorden, Doctoral Student at Hanken and Karl-Erik Sveiby, Professor Emeritus at Hanken.
