New research shows that African governments’ external borrowing can enhance corporate access to capital, not hinder it. The reason is that external debt enhances market confidence. Unlike domestic borrowing, external debt brings fresh capital into the economy, enabling firms, especially listed and internationally active ones, to access financing more easily.

Academics in management and organization studies today have been driven into focusing predominantly on building a CV and developing networks, securing funding and producing articles published in high-ranked journals, all of which supports the university’s competitive position in global rankings. Jeppe Christoffersen’s (Copenhagen Business School) research shows how firms beat earnings benchmarks, such as avoiding earnings decreases and losses.

Limiting global warming requires reducing substantially the greenhouse gases that our economies emit, particularly the emissions of firms driving economic activity. The European Union committed to reduce emissions down to net zero by 2050 and Finland by 2035. Meeting these commitments requires continued actions of governments and firms, but also of financial actors.

The Finnish Innovation Index (FII) is a national measure of perceived innovativeness of companies among Finnish customers who have during the last six months purchased or used the products of the included companies.

After carrying out careful assessment and risk analyses, Finnish universities have concluded that holding entrance examinations which require applicants’ physical presence and also involve careful safety arrangements is the best way to implement a fair student admission procedure that takes into account subject-specific special requirements and treats all applicants equally.

Minister of Education Sanni Grahn-Laasonen has appointed Anne Brunila, Professor of Practice at Hanken, as Chair of a panel that will try to envisage the ever-changing needs within education.

The registration for Hanken Open University courses started on 9 August and attracted great interest. The Fast track-study places were quickly filled. The Fast track gives admittance to Hanken based on good study results, without an entrance test.

The Hanken foundation 'Stiftelsen Svenska handelshögskolan' has decided to reward the following persons for their publications in accordance with the guidelines (from 9/2014) for rewarding scientific publications.
