"German Financial Markets and Institutions: Advantage or Drawback for Economic Growth?" Guest lecture by Professor Wolfgang Bessler, Justus Liebig University Giessen.
The German economy has performed relatively well during the pre- and post-crisis periods. At least within Europe, Germany has been able to deal with unemployment, government deficits and economic growth.
Historically, the German universal banking system was often mentioned as a pivotal factor for the economic performance in Germany - is the current banking system still beneficial?
Professor Bessler will address the following issues in his presentation:
- How did German banks perform during and after the financial crisis and do they facilitate economic growth?
- Are capital markets in Germany well developed to finance economic growth and what are the current initiatives to create efficient capital markets?
- Are European initiatives for a banking and capital market union the solution to our growth and financing problems in Europe?
The guest lecture arranged by Hanken Centre for Corporate Governance is open for all interested.
