Time 2 Scale is a project designed to support startups in Finland and the Baltic countries in expanding their operations. Of the first eight Finnish companies that have taken part, more than half have already succeeded in scaling up their business.

This year’s Anders Wall Scholarship has been awarded to Maxine Buchert, founder and CEO of Meridian, a marketing agency specialising in organic growth on social media. Hanken School of Economics has been granted over 150,000 euros from the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Ostrobothnia for a research project aimed at developing tourism solutions that are more accessible, sustainable, and community-based. The project's pilot area is the World Heritage site in the Kvarken Archipelago.

Svenska handelshögskolan (Hanken) har tilldelats över 150 000 euro från Närings-, trafik- och miljöcentralen i Österbotten för ett forskningsprojekt vars mål är att utveckla turismlösningar som är mer lättgängliga, hållbara och samhällsförankrade. Johanna Karanko and Nicola Lindertz are Hanken alumni who both became ambassadors. Karanko is currently stationed in Brazil while Lindertz serves in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. At the end of 2023, a well-being survey was conducted among bachelor's and master's students at Hanken. The survey shows good result.

Top Finnish design from the 1950s, carefully thought-out lighting, colours and soft flooring for a friendly and cozy atmosphere, and beautiful windows bringing natural light and the city outside into the rooms. The Hanken building in Helsinki was created by a dream team, says Päivi Helander, an Olof Ottelin researcher and one of the guides when Hanken participated in Helsinki Design Week.

Helsinki Design Week is the largest design and architecture festival in the Nordic countries and takes place 8-17.9.2023. The programme offers over 100 events and for the first time Hanken's main building is also part of the festival.

A record number of almost 150 people applied to the 2023 Hanken mentorship programme. Mentor Yrsa Landsdorff and mentee Wilma Leskinen are two of them. The European Commission has announced that ENGAGE.EU is to receive a follow-up grant to the amount of € 14.4 million for further elaborating the collaboration among nine European universities. Hanken School of Economics has been involved in the collaboration since May 2022, and now with the renewed funding will become full member of the ENGAGE.EU alliance.

Companies within the EU need to take greater responsibility to prevent social and environmental problems. This is also the case in developing countries, where the majority of production takes place. For that reason, a number of EU corporate responsibility regulations are being prepared.

The University Collegium of Hanken approved the financial statements for 2022 at its meeting on 8 May 2023. Hanken's operating result in 2022 was -2.9 million compared to the budgeted –3,0 million.

At the beginning of the year, a new funding act determining the state's research and development funding in 2024–2030 entered into force. In practice, the implementation of the Act means that the central government budgeted approximately EUR 260 million more for RDI activities each year in 2024-2030.

Many projects are doomed from the onset by insufficient attention to project concept design. As a result, projects – even when on time, within budget and according to specifications – can fail to meet the needs of buyers, end-users or contractors.

Political discussions about whether to merge Hanken in Vaasa with Åbo Akademi University or with the University of Vaasa have been ongoing ever since Hanken in Vaasa was established in 1980. Today Sören Kock, dean and rector’s representative in Vaasa, sees the possibility of Hanken in Vaasa remaining as Hanken in a positive light. “I find it fascinating that a Triple-Crown accredited university manages to operate in two locations,” Kock remarks.

The universities in Finland will increase the number of study places in the student admissions in spring 2020. Within the economic sciences, some universities have already decided to increase the number of study places while others are currently making plans for additional admissions. In the economic sciences, an increase of about 200 new study places is planned. The increased admissions will require funding in the government’s next supplementary budget.

The HUMLOG Institute at Hanken School of Economics is the co-ordinator of the Horizon 2020 research project Health Emergency Response in Interconnected Systems (HERoS) in connection to the present corona virus (COVID-19) outbreak. The project involves 11 partners from six countries and has a total budget of 2,8 MEUR over three years.

Hanken participates in a two-year project that focuses on smart energy systems and solutions (Smart Grids). The Council of Ostrobothnia has granted the project funding and the overall budget is EUR 900 000. The University of Vaasa leads the project.

According to the financial statement for 2013, approved by the Board of Hanken on 9 April 2014, Hanken's results fulfilled expectations with regard to both the budget and resource allocation. During the year Hanken continued to reinforce its position as a research-oriented business school with a strong international profile, and it was able to do so from a solid financial standing.
