The President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, has awarded three distinctions to people associated with Hanken School of Economics.

This year, eight Hanken students participated in the international exam "Prüfung Wirtschaftsdeutsch PWD" which is organised in Finland by the German Finnish Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with Hanken and the Goethe-Institute. The PWD diploma is the highest grade that can be obtained in business German.

As a result, we see academics who neglect their own life in terms of material, emotional or familial sustenance, and social relations. Instead, they devote all their time to precarious work.

Limiting global warming requires reducing substantially the greenhouse gases that our economies emit, particularly the emissions of firms driving economic activity. The European Union committed to reduce emissions down to net zero by 2050 and Finland by 2035. Meeting these commitments requires continued actions of governments and firms, but also of financial actors.

New research shows that food security research and action need to emphasise distribution and retail in addition to agricultural production.

After many years in the oil industry, Linda Tallberg changed her career and started researching human-animal relations at work. She is often asked the question: what do animals have to do with business?

In 2017, The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre conducted an audit of Hanken’s quality system and awarded it a quality label that is valid for six years. In February, Hanken signed up for the next national evaluation taking place in 2023.

Why are universities holding on-location entrance examinations during the pandemic?
After carrying out careful assessment and risk analyses, Finnish universities have concluded that holding entrance examinations which require applicants’ physical presence and also involve careful safety arrangements is the best way to implement a fair student admission procedure that takes into account subject-specific special requirements and treats all applicants equally.

Coronakrisen har prövat Finlands ekonomi, men i lägre grad än vad som befarades från början. Under krisen har företagsverksamheten fått stöd både direkt och indirekt, t.ex. genom lättnader i reglerna för permittering. Nu bereder regeringen ett tredje kostnadsstödpaket till företagen. Regeringen borde dock överväga att skifta fokus från direkta stöd, såsom kostnadsstöd, till stöd som kräver motprestation, såsom Finnveras borgen.

Universities have continued to prepare student admissions for 2021, taking into account the current coronavirus situation. The aim is to organise the spring and summer entrance examinations on campuses or other physical facilities. The tests are supervised and follow strict safety arrangements.

Fresh results published by a research project led by Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki show that travel restrictions are one of the most effective methods to stop the spreading of Covid-19. In order to carry its social responsibility during these exceptional times, Hanken School of Economics has decided to accept an additional 45 students in the ongoing admissions 2020.

Hanken School of Economics, FIANT Consulting Oy, 3bility Consulting and The Human Rights Centre (HRC) implement a research project called SIHTI (Status of Human Rights Performance of Finnish Companies). Minister of Education Sanni Grahn-Laasonen has appointed Anne Brunila, Professor of Practice at Hanken, as Chair of a panel that will try to envisage the ever-changing needs within education.

The registration for Hanken Open University courses started on 9 August and attracted great interest. The Fast track-study places were quickly filled. The Fast track gives admittance to Hanken based on good study results, without an entrance test.
