This page introduces digital solutions for teaching (page under development)

Introduction

Teaching at Hanken to a large degree is blended and is designed so that the different teaching methods support Hankens' pedagogical approaches and learning objectives. In order for teaching to be realised in the best way, several digital tools and pedagogical considerations are required. The purpose of this page is to summarise how teaching is structured on the basis of the tools used and to indicate the minimum requirements of the digital content needed in teaching. Familiarize yourself with the various digital tools that Hanken offers, see the link at the bottom.

The figure below shows different levels (percentage and colour) of educational content and information provided in digital format.

Digi policy

The first level from the bottom refers to general study administration, which means activities such as study rights, study credits and study plans. The second level refers to more course-specific administration, such as e.g. course registration, course pages, course plan and content, examination, and course evaluation (Spark). These two levels provide all information and content digitally via Sisu and Moodle

The third level from the bottom is aimed at teaching materials, such as books, articles, videos, and instructions for assignments. At this level, the aim is to have as much electronic access to learning content as possible. The same applies to the fourth level, which deals with assessment. Submission of tasks should take place via Moodle, and to some extent forms of summative assessment such as e-exams in Exam.  Assessment and feedback, including final grade for the course are provided digitally.

Assessments from paper and oral exams must also be administered digitally. However, general feedback on e.g. an exam can be arranged as an on-site teaching opportunity. Feedback can take place in several different ways, directly in the classroom or e.g. based on a matrix on an essay. You can find more information about feedback on the Assessment and feedback page (the page is under construction).

The top two levels aim at the actual teaching and student collaboration and interaction. Here, digital content and teaching, e.g. a lecture in Teams can be a reinforcement. Teaching can include pre-recorded lectures (Panopto) and reading materials, but also classroom lectures, which can be streamed or recorded for later use (if transcribed).

Contact teaching however and interaction in the classroom through e.g. group work and discussions between teachers and students should largely take place on campus, but there are digital possibilities, e.g. via Teams to have group work between students.

The most important thing when you plan the teaching is to take into account teaching methods, competence goals, learning outcomes, but also what level students are at, size of the group and what spaces and technical possibilities are available.

Sisu is a system for studying, academic administration and teaching.

As a teacher you can see your teaching in Sisu and find the registered students as well as register grades for them. You can also find the schedule for your teaching in Sisu.

Teachers should always check that the course description in Sisu is updated to your new course design. Above all, check that the examination method, course category, working method and total workload match if the learning objectives and the course description are kept the same.

Moodle is Hanken's Learning Management System (LMS). In Moodle, the teacher manages all information for students, course content (syllabus), teaching materials, assignments and instructions, creates other tasks, and provides assessment and feedback, etc.

Moodle is a powerful tool with many different educational possibilities. More information can be found here Moodle for teachers

The Library supports educators in choosing and accessing digital course material, raises awareness of copyright issues, supports in question regarding data management, formatting and information retrieval.

Note! The library supports students to acquire information skills. The teaching and students themselves are responsible for handling content.

More information about the library can be found here Hanken Library.

If a teacher needs help with pedagogical and technical solutions with the use and functions of the digital tools, they should contact Teaching Lab. Go to Contact us for more information about different services.

If you as a teacher need help with general technical support and IT services, or video recording or want to use Hanken studio, contact the IT services via help@hanken.fi
