Marketing as a major in Helsinki

In Helsinki students can choose marketing as a major in the Swedish Master's programme, or the track Marketing in the Business and Management specialization of the Eglish MSc programme.

The marketing major studies focus on the role of marketing in organizations and how marketing can be used as a strategic tool and an instrument for competing in markets. The programme gives the student the skills, tools, and models for working in responsible and leading positions in companies. The studies offer knowledge of analysing markets, evaluating marketing strategies and outcomes, and using marketing as a tool in competition.

The programme is suitable for you who:

  • Have a genuine interest in marketing and various marketing activities, like product and service innovations, strategic brand management, and different business models.
  • Want deeper understanding and skills regarding marketing's strategic importance for companies.
  • Are interested in customer behaviour and customer relationships as a driving force for the profitability of a company – how one builds and maintains business relations with customers and meets the customers’ needs and goals.

As a student in Master's programme (in Swedish) you follow the Master's study plan for the integrated Bachelor's and Master's programme and you can choose from a wide selection of courses to include in your Master's degree. The programme has a three-part structure:

  • 90 ECTS are dedicated to programme-tied studies where you immerse yourself in the subject marketing. These studies include research methods and a thesis.
  • A minimum of one language course (6 ECTS) is included in the programme.
  • The remaining 24 ECTS can be chosen freely from the wide selection of courses that Hanken in Helsinki has to offer.

Business and Management is a two-year Master's programme specialization in English which is available in Helsinki and which covers 120 ECTS. Within the specialization you choose one of three orientations (”tracks”), one of which is marketing:

  • Marketing
  • Humanitarian logistics or
  • International strategy and sustainability

In Vaasa students can choose marketing as a major in the Swedish  Master's level programme or the track Marketing and Management in the Business and Management specialization of the English MSc programme.

Marketing (Strategic marketing management) is a two-year Master's programme in Swedish that is available in Vaasa. It covers 120 ECTS.

The goal of the programme is to give students a competence to lead market oriented companies and organizations that operate in markets characterized by fast development, continuous changes, and complex structures. Understanding of strategic marketing activities -- like effective branding, business intelligence, and marketing communication -- are of crucial importance in such business environments.

The programme follows the same study plan as the Master's studies in the integrated Bachelor's and Master's programme which has three parts:

  • 90 ECTS are dedicated to programme-tied studies in which the student is immersed in the subject Marketing. These studies include studies on research methods and a Master’s thesis.
  • A minimum of one language course (6 ECTS) is included in the programme.
  • The remaining 24 ECTS can be chosen freely from the wide selection of courses that Hanken in Vaasa has to offer.
