Incoming exchange students application process

When Hanken has received a nomination from a partner university the student receives a link to the online application system. Please note that no hard copies are requested to be air mailed, all documents and information must be uploaded online.

Application deadlines:

  • 1 May (autumn semester and whole year)
  • 15 October (spring semester)

      Fill in the online registration form and upload the following documents to your profile:

      • Transcript(s) of Records with the university's stamp. Upload documents of all courses you have completed at bachelor's and/or master's level at the time of application
      • Photo (passport size, max 500x500 pixels)
      •  A certificate of English language proficiency (Note that the online system requires a document to be uploaded. Even though you are exempted from submitting a certificate of English proficiency as referred to below, you need to upload a paper stating the reason for the exemption).

      Evidence of English proficiency

      Incoming exchange students' English proficiency must be at level B2-C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Erasmus+ students, i.e. students from partner universities in the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) area, are not required to take  an international language test if the home university can certify that the nominated student’s English language proficiency meets at least CEFR international standard B2 level.

      International language tests and minimum scores accepted:
      • TOEFL minimum 87 iBT (internet based test), minimum 567 PBT (paper based test)
      • IELTS band 6.5 or above
      • CAE (Certificate in Advanced English, University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations)
      • FCE (First Certificate in English, University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations)
      Students who are exempted from showing proof of English proficiency :
      • Students from English speaking countries and Nordic countries
      • Students who are undertaking a bachelor's or master's degree taught entirely in English

      Acceptance

      Hanken will issue the Accepance Letter when we have checked that everything is in order in the completed application. Acceptance letters are sent in April/May to students arriving for the Autumn semester and in October to students arriving for the Spring semester. The Acceptance Letter is needed by students from non EU/EEA-member countries in order to apply for a residence permit. The Acceptance letters are sent by e-mail as a PDF attachment only, as no hard cover originals are requested by the Finnish Immigration authorities.

      Helsinki Campus

      The application for Exchange students opens on 1 April for students arriving in the Autumn semester and on 1 October  for students arriving in the Spring semester.

      Fill out the application form on the VOAS web pages AFTER May 1st. Do not apply before May 1st, your application expires in 3 months.
