Incoming Exchange Students

On these web pages you will find information on exchange studies at Hanken.

Information for incoming exchange students in the autumn 2020 semester due to covid-19 (updated 20.4.2020 and 11.05.2020)

Hanken plans to welcome exchange students for the autumn 2020 semester as usual and will inform nominated students immediately should there be any changes. However, we ask that all students planning an exchange at Hanken during the autumn 2020 or full year 2020-2021 pay special attention to:

Residence permits
Due to Covid-19, Finland and the rest of the Schengen countries suspends the reception and processing of residence permits and visas at the missions and embassies (https://migri.fi/etusivu). There is no information yet when these exceptional arrangements will terminate. Hence, we hope for patience among nominated students who needs a residence permit.
Hanken will send acceptance letters as usual and the students can still submit their residence permit applications through the Finnish Immigration Service’s online service at www.enterfinland.fi. The applications will be accepted for processing once the exceptional arrangements are no longer in effect at the embassies. Only students from outside the EU, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland or Liechtenstein need residence permits.

Booking your flight
We recommend that you don’t purchase any flight tickets yet, or book tickets that allow cancellations.

Student accommodation
The application for student accommodation in Helsinki (HOAS) opened on 1 April and in Vaasa (VOAS) on 1 May. You should apply for accommodation already, also without a residence permit (or even acceptance letter). The room/apartment offers are sent in June, and then students are asked to pay a one month’s rent deposit to confirm the accommodation contract. We recommend that you apply for housing now and we will keep you informed regarding residence permits and advise you before signing the contracts. We recommend that you do not sign leases on the private market until you have more certain information about how the corona situation in Finland will evolve.

You can follow the situation at Hanken and in Finland here: https://www.hanken.fi/en/about-hanken/current-information/information-regarding-corona-virus
