Language requirements

Here you find the language requirements for admission to MSc studies in English.

All applicants need to fulfill one of the following language requirements:

*The language of instruction must be clearly stated in the degree certificate, transcript of records or the diploma supplement (or other offical certificate issued by the institution.)

In case the degree is a double degree/triple degree/transnational degree/joint degree, at least 50 % of the degree must have been obtained while the student physically has been studying in the country in question in order to fulfill the language requirement.

No other English proficiency tests are accepted. Hanken must be able to verify the test results with the test provider in order for the result to be accepted.

 

Language requirements for the Double Degree programme within the MSc programme in International Strategy and Sustainability

If you wish to apply to the Double Degree programme within the programme in International Strategy and Sustainability (Note! only possible within the Main Admission round), please note that the language requirements are more limited and is higher than within the regular language requirements above:

     

    When should I take the language proficiency test?

    • Register for a test date as early as possible so you can take the test well in advance before the start of the application period.
       
      • Note! You must submit your test taker's copy of the test result with your application.
        • It take up to 20 working days to receive some test results - it is your responsability to check the delivery times for the test results so that you timely can sumbit the test result.
           
    • It is your responsibility to find out the test dates and closing dates for registration for the language tests.
    • If you already have a sufficient test result, check the validity of your result and make arrangements for a new test well in advance, if necessary.
       
    • Remember to request the test organisation to give Hanken access to your test result so that we can verify your result in the test organiser's verification portal.

     

    How long is my language test valid?

    • Hanken accepts language tests which are no older than 2 years.
       
      • MAIN ADMISSION: Your test result must be valid on the final application deadline in order for the test to be accepted.
      • ROLLING ADMISSION: your language test result must be valid for the whole duration of the processing of your application (30 days after submitting your application).
         
    • The test results will be verified with the test organiser.

     

    When taking a language test

    TOEFL or TOEFL iBT® Home Edition

    • Request the test organiser to share your test result with Hanken using the reporting code 8433 in the score report recipient field.
    • A department code is not required (or you can choose any department).
    • Upload a test taker's copy of your test result with your application to Hanken School of Economics.

    IELTS Academic or IELTS Indicator (Academic)

    • Request the test organiser to share your test result with Hanken School of Economics.
    • The score receipient is Hanken School of Economics. You can choose any department and the result will reach us.
    • For the IELTS indicatior test, include the IELTS Indicator Score ID in your application.
    • Uppload a test taker's copy of your test result with your application to Hanken School of Economics.
       

    C2 Proficiency (previous name CPE) and C1 Advanced

    • Share your test result with Hanken School of Economics throguh the Result Service for Candidates.
    • Upload a copy of your Statement of Results that includes your Statement of Results Number with your application to Hanken School of Economics.
       

    PTE Academic

    • Log in to your PTE account and send your test results to Hanken School of Economics.
    • Upload a test taker's copy of your test result including your Score Report Code in your application to Hanken School of Economics.
       

    The Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency YKI test in English

    • Uppload a test taker's copy of your test result with your application to Hanken School of Economics.

     

    Fulfilling the language requirement based on a aptitude test

    Applicants can also opt to prove their English language proficiency based on one of the accepted aptitude tests.
