Every day there's 3.2 billion likes and comments on Facebook, over 500 million tweets on Twitter, 3.7 million videos uploaded on Youtube and over 100 billion messages sent on Whatsapp. “This is why alternative data matters”, says Thoi Mai, doctoral student in finance at Hanken School of Economics.

The fundraising campaign Count on Hanken ended almost six months ago and the result of the state co-financing has now been published. Hanken School of Economics (Hanken) is the fourth largest recipient in Finland with an amount of 6 273 000 euros. Hanken will thus increase its basic capital by 12,8 million euros.

Limiting global warming requires reducing substantially the greenhouse gases that our economies emit, particularly the emissions of firms driving economic activity. The European Union committed to reduce emissions down to net zero by 2050 and Finland by 2035. Meeting these commitments requires continued actions of governments and firms, but also of financial actors.
