In the timetable below, you can see by when you need to submit your Master's thesis in order to graduate on a certain graduation date. You should apply for the degree certificate at least three weeks prior to the graduation date. The graduation dates are the same for master's and doctoral degrees. Please note that we cannot allow anyone to differ from these dates and that your thesis supervisor does not have the power to alter these deadlines. *Information about the official graduation date 31 July

In order to graduate during the academic year 2020-2021, you need to submit your Master’s thesis and apply for the degree certificate before 31 July. Your official graduation date will be 31 July, but you’ll receive your degree certificate 24 September.

The Master’s thesis does not have to be approved but submitted and the maturity test must be written before 31 July. If you have completed your thesis and courses already earlier in spring you should apply for your degree certificate by 27 May (see timetable above). You don’t have to be registered as present for autumn term if you’ve completed everything before 31.7. Possible course competition left to august will move your graduation date to the next official graduation date in October. If so, you must be registered as present for autumn term.

It’s possible to receive a preliminary degree certificate only in certain cases before 24 September. Example of approved reasons are if you’ve been conditionally accepted to a University program starting autumn 2021 or you’re a Hanken scholarship student that requires you to hand in a preliminary degree certificate 31 July or 31 August. Be ready to verify your situation with documents. NB! If you hand in your master's thesis between 1 May and 31 July, the soonest you may receive a preliminary degree certificate is after the Education Council has approved the thesis, i.e. 6.9.2021. If you need a preliminary degree certificate we kindly ask you to well in advance contact the study counselling (studycounsellor-hki@hanken.fi).
