Innovative research into women’s online narratives

Dr. Maj-Britt Höglund at Hanken’s Language Centre in Vaasa and Dr. Marinella Rodi-Risberg, University of Jyväskylä are to be published in the international journal Discourse, Context & Media (Elsevier).

Their article “From victims to survivors: The discourse of trauma in self-narratives of sexual violence in Cosmopolitan UK online” combines Critical Discourse Analysis and trauma theory which the editor of the journal has labelled "a methodological innovation”.

The data were downloaded from Cosmopolitan UK online during the time period of November 18, 2016 to February 18, 2017. Thus, the data collection preceded the #metoo movement, focusing on similar narratives, with some six months.
Both authors are listed with Hanken’s research institute GODESS.

The article is in press, but courtesy of the publisher, it is already available online in a proof-read, citeable version at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dcm.2018.04.004
