Wojciech Piotrowicz
Director of the HUMLOG Institute, Associate Professor in Sustainable Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility, Hanken
Research interests:
Wojciech is Director of the HUMLOG Institute, he joined Hanken in 2017, after over ten years at University of Oxford. His research is related to Supply Chain and logistics in various contexts, performance and evaluation, as well as impact of technologies on organisations and societies. Currently he leads Academy of Finland project focused on humanitarian assistance and local markets under armed conflict conditions.
Diego Vega
Deputy Director of the HUMLOG Institute
Diego Vega is Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility, esp. Humanitarian Logistics and Deputy Director of the HUMLOG Institute. Prior to joining Hanken and the Institute, Diego was Assistant Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and lately, Head of the Information Systems, Supply Chain Management and Decision Making Department at NEOMA Business School, France. Diego completed his doctoral studies at the CRET-LOG Research Institute, Aix-Marseille University in France, in collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), France. Diego’s current research interests include logistics services in humanitarian operations, competence-based strategic management for humanitarian organizations and supply chain maturity.
Gyöngyi Kovács
Erkko Professor in Humanitarian Logistics, Hanken
Research interests:
Gyöngyi's research has focused on the areas of challenges and trends in humanitarian logistics, humanitarian supply chain design, innovation in humanitarian supply chains, and humanitarian logistics skills and competencies. She has also conducted research in sustainable supply chain management and research approaches in logistics. She led the HUMLOG Institute since its establishment in 2008 until 2014. Gyöngyi is currently involved in many of the HUMLOG Institute's ongoing research projects, as well as in a project related to wine supply chains.
Daniel Ekwall

Research interests:
Daniel Ekwall (Ph.D) is Associate Professor in logistics at the University of Borås, Associate Professor in Supply chain management at Swedish business school in Helsinki and also Associate Professor in Supply Chain Security at the Turku School of Economics. Daniel is also the former head of global security at DB Schenker. He has published articles in leading academic journals. . Daniel is currently doing research in logistics security, textile management and supply chain management.

Research interests:
Graham's research interests are in the intersections between global logistics / supply chain management, humanitarian logistics and organisational management development. His research and consultancy interests span mainstream commercial, defence and other public service contexts examining supply chain management, and operations management issues which impact on organisational effectiveness or innovative practices.

Peter Tatham

Research interests:
Peter joined the faculty of Griffith University in July 2010 where he teaches and researches in humanitarian supply network management. Prior to that, he served in the UK Royal Navy for 35 years, and completed his doctoral thesis which investigated the role of shared values within UK military supply networks at Cranfield University.
Kristjana Adalgeirsdottir

Kristjana co-ordinates HUMLOG´s various research and collaboration projects. She is also a Red Cross Shelter delegate and member of the Emergency Response Team of ShelterBox, with field experience from humanitarian operations in disasters and recovery.

Magnus is responsible for general administrative support of the daily operations of the institute. He is a master's student at Hanken, majoring in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility.

Amin Maghsoudi
HUMLOG Postdoctoral Researcher
Amin Maghsoudi is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Research (HUMLOG) Institute at Hanken School of Economics. He was previously served as the postdoctoral researcher and visiting lecturer at University of Tehran as well as Tehran University of Medical Sciences where he lectured the course titled Public Health Supply Chain in Disaster Relief for the PhD candidates. Amin completed his Ph.D on Operations and Supply Chain Management at Universiti Sains Malaysia. His research interests lie in the area of humanitarian logistics, blockchain for supply chain management, cash-based interventions (CBI), inter-organizational coordination, social media in humanitarian operations, and data analytics. For the purpose of research and teaching experience, Amin has interviewed and connected with a number of humanitarian organizations (both national and international) operating within Southeast Asia (e.g., Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia) and the Middle Eastern region (e.g., Iran, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates). Some of his research results are published in peer-reviewed journals such as Supply Chain Management: An International Journal.
Andries Heyns
HUMLOG Project Researcher
Andries is a Project Researcher at HUMLOG. He holds a B.Eng in electronic engineering, an M.Sc in applied mathematics, and a Ph.D in operations research - all from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Before joining HUMLOG, he performed postdoctoral research at the University of Alabama, USA, and the University of Pretoria, South Africa. His main research interests are in the fields of geospatial analysis, multi-objective optimisation, and facilities location science, which he has combined to provide analysis and decision support to problems in wildfire detection, rhino conservation, and rural roads development. He has done field work for Doctors Without Borders as a logistician and a GIS specialist in the Central African Republic, Mozambique, and Bangladesh. His other previous endeavours include working as a radar software engineer in South Africa, teaching English in South Korea and Reunion Island, working as a volunteer wildland fire fighter (Cape Town, South Africa), and he is certified as an anti-poaching field ranger.

Claudia Paciarotti is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Plants at the Faculty of Engineering at Università Politecnica delle Marche. Claudia’s main research interests are operation management, humanitarian logistics and supply chain, process modelling, business process reengineering and education.

Christian is an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Production Management at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU). His research fields include logistics, supply chain management and related decision support systems to investigate and optimize time-critical delivery processes, particularly for humanitarian and food logistics operations.

Ioanna is a Project Researcher at the HUMLOG. She holds a PhD from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Her research focuses on: cross-sector collaboration and coordination in humanitarian supply chains, the outsourcing of humanitarian logistics, the digitization of humanitarian supply chains, and cash transfer programming.
Jana Abíková
HUMLOG Project Researcher
Jana Abíková is a Project Researcher at the HUMLOG Institute. Jana hold MA in Business Economics and Management with specialization in logistics and international transportation. She completed her PhD at the University of Economics, Prague at the Faculty of Business Administration. Her main research interests are in the field of human resources in humanitarian logistics, transit migration, and refugee crises, mostly question of location problem of the refugee camps. In addition to her research experience, Jana has work experience from for-profit and non-profit sector as well. She worked in automotive industry and for various non-governmental organisations like Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International or People in Need.
Joseph Sarkis
HUMLOG Research Associate
Joseph Sarkis is a Professor of Management in the Foisie Business School within the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). His research and teaching includes sustainability, supply chain and operations management, and technology management. He has over 400 publications in a wide variety of outlets. He has been internationally recognized as a highly cited researcher by the Web-of-Science for the past four years. He serves as an editor, associate editor, or editorial member in some of the world’s leading management and environmental journals. Joseph is the Co-Editor of the Springer-Nature Book Series on Greening of Industry Networks. His most recent edited book is titled “Handbook on the Sustainable Supply Chain,” published by Edward Elgar Publishing. In recent years he has served as a visiting scholar at a number of universities throughout the world including universities in China, Egypt, Hungary, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo; and has been an Industrial Ecology Fellow. Currently he is a program and working group leader in the Green of Industry Network (GIN), as well as the Future Earth Circular Economy Working Group.
Minchul Sohn

Minchul Sohn is a post-doctoral research fellow at Kühne Logistics University in Hamburg, Germany. His research area includes humanitarian logistic preparedness, coordinating mechanisms for disaster preparedness/response, supply chain resilience, and changes in climate extremes and their impacts on the humanitarian supply chains. During his stay in Hanken School of Economics, Minchul has worked for several projects, including Project Resilience in Disaster Relief and Development Supply Chains, SAFE-MET, MELOGIC, and UNHCR CP-SCM. He received his doctorate in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility from Hanken School of Economics, Finland and master’s degree in logistics and operations management from Cardiff University, UK.

Paul Larson is a CN Professor of Supply Chain Management, University of Manitoba and Distinguished Senior Fellow/Professor in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility, Hanken. His research interests are supply chain sustainability, sustainable transportation, supplier diversity, consumer logistics, cultural dimensions in sustainability, and, of course, humanitarian logistics.
Linda Annala

Research interests:
Linda is interested in the sustainability of transnational technologies and innovations, and the political processes shaping the social constructions of technological development. Her PhD thesis focuses on the co-production of drinking water in Ethiopia and India, looking at the shifting meanings and material practices among public institutions, private actors and citizens in co-producing the basic human right, i.e. drinking water. In her future research, she will be looking into migration, and innovation for labor market integration; with a continuing interest in the challenges posed by historical institutions and unequal relations of power for developing inclusive innovations. Her PhD is situated in the disciplines of Corporate Responsibility, and Science, Technology and Society studies. Linda is also part of the Centre for Corporate Responsibility.

Yewondwossen’s research focuses on ’basic needs’ issues such as human rights, social justice, and quality of life in the accountability structures of development interventions. His basic areas of interest include Cross-Sector Partnerships (CSPs), NGOs’ role in international business, and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in developing countries.

Greta's research interests include the mechanisms that support or alternatively hinder the inclusion of factory worker's perspectives in the Corporate Social Responsibility practices of the multinational corporations in the developing country context.
Isabell Storsjö

Research interests:
Isabell studies the intersection of supply chain management and government regulation and public policy. She is especially interested in the justice system, and public procurement. She is also interested in humanitarian logistics and preparedness, especially in relation to the public sector. Isabell intends to defend her thesis in 2020. She previously worked for the HUMLOG project “Cascading Innovation Upstream the Supply Chain through Procurement Processes”, funded by the Erkko foundation.

Robert Davtyan

Robert focuses on sustainable innovations in public procurement, as well as on the roles of small and medium sized enterprises in the process. Other interests include public transportation and cleantech development. Currently Robert manages UNHCR Certification Programme in Supply Chain Management training project and coordinates the learning of study cohorts.

Russell's primary research interests are related to cash-based interventions in humanitarian operations, especially with respect to how they affect the supply chain and what measures can be taken to improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Other areas of interest include simulation modeling, systems and network analysis, and process improvement.
Qifeng Yan

Research interests:
Qifeng focuses primarily on the applications of climate science in humanitarian logistics. He is interested how the impacts of natural disasters can be mitigated by using climate information in humanitarian operations. He is also interested in development studies and sustainability.

Félicia´s primary area of focus is Humanitarian Supply Chain Management in Protracted Crisis, with a specific emphasis on medical assistance. Other areas of interest include process improvement, network analysis and sustainability.
Anna Zhuravleva

Anna's research interests include closed-loop and reverse supply chain solutions, humanitarian supply chain and social responsibility. Previously, Anna was a leader of the global association 180 Degrees Consulting in Helsinki which connects students with local NGOs through various consulting projects. Under her leadership, students helped Finnish NGOs in identifying donor management and marketing strategies as well as in managing the supply chain of second-hand charity stores.
