A new way to store your things: pack at home, schedule pickup through an app, and have them delivered back whenever you need, whether it’s a few items or everything at once. This innovative service has been created by Hanken student Axel Aarnio and his co-founder Mikael Mauranen, in collaboration with Posti and Hanken Business Lab.

In our new article series Alumni Interview, we meet Hanken alumni from all over the world to hear what they have been up to after graduation. This time we met up with Nina Fagerholm, whose workplace for the past five years has been the Royal Palace in the heart of Stockholm!

Students at Hanken have participated in a survey on how students in the Helsinki metropolitan area view housing, well-being and the future in the metropolitan area. Almost 70 per cent of the students are worried about their livelihood when the cost of living rises, and two thirds think that social crises have a negative impact on their confidence in the future.

Top Finnish design from the 1950s, carefully thought-out lighting, colours and soft flooring for a friendly and cozy atmosphere, and beautiful windows bringing natural light and the city outside into the rooms. The Hanken building in Helsinki was created by a dream team, says Päivi Helander, an Olof Ottelin researcher and one of the guides when Hanken participated in Helsinki Design Week.

Helsinki Design Week is the largest design and architecture festival in the Nordic countries and takes place 8-17.9.2023. The programme offers over 100 events and for the first time Hanken's main building is also part of the festival.

Hanken has signed new student exchange agreements with SKEMA Business School and ESCP Business School in France. Students can apply for an exchange at these new partner universities for autumn semester 2023 no later than 31.01.2023.

Creating a stronger link between economics and IT, managing big data more efficiently, making better data-driven decisions and developing new fintech solutions – these and others are areas Quantum wants to be involved in.

Johanna Karanko, 52, graduated from Hanken in Helsinki in 1993 with Management and Organisation as her major. Since September 2018, she has been working as Finland's Consul General in Hong Kong.

Quantum is a versatile meeting place that offers access to company and financial databases and allows for the handling of big data. Modern technology makes it possible to stream all classes and other events, as well as allowing for keeping up with real-time financial news. Quantum, made possible by donations, opened in February 2020.

Political discussions about whether to merge Hanken in Vaasa with Åbo Akademi University or with the University of Vaasa have been ongoing ever since Hanken in Vaasa was established in 1980. Today Sören Kock, dean and rector’s representative in Vaasa, sees the possibility of Hanken in Vaasa remaining as Hanken in a positive light. “I find it fascinating that a Triple-Crown accredited university manages to operate in two locations,” Kock remarks.

Hanken offers around 40 seats in cross-disciplinary studies in corporate responsibility (CR) every year free of charge. A growing number of working professionals apply for the study module, as well as unemployed or laid off people.

Students at Hanken have participated in a study that examined how students in the metropolitan area view, among other things, housing, urban planning, and studies in the metropolitan area. The goal is to gather ideas and wishes on how to develop the metropolitan area and services for students.
