Students and tech enthusiasts gathered at Hanken from 9–11 October 2025 to take part in the Quantum x AI Hackathon. During the event, organised in collaboration with Ultrahack, participants developed tools that converged artificial intelligence, quantum computing, portfolio optimisation, and cybersecurity to shape the future of finance.

Many Finnish small and medium-sized (SMEs) companies are developing innovative and high-quality sustainable products and services. However, selling those products can be challenging. Hanken School of Economics has received 245,000 euros from Business Finland to equip SMEs with tools for successfully marketing sustainable offerings and achieving profitability.

There are significant differences in how prepared Finnish companies are to comply with EU regulations on corporate responsibility. This is shown by a new study conducted by several Hanken researchers, among others, on behalf of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Climate change adds to the complexity to the environment in which humanitarian supply chains operate. In the meanwhile, humanitarian supply chains would contribute to the exacerbation of climate change if a greener approach of management is not adopted. Collaboration between scientists, humanitarian practitioners and beneficiaries can help humanitarian supply chains to become more prepared to climatological hazards and more sustainable.

At the international level, states from the Global South (i.e. Africa, Asia and Latin America) agree that responsible business means transferring knowhow, resources and technology from the north to the south, and that companies must not violate state sovereignty. At the national level, these states can steer foreign companies' CSR activities, so that resources are channelled towards public and private actors in positions of power.

Climate change is an important driver of humanitarian needs. Yet, humanitarian operations also contribute to environmental pollution and degradation. Hanken School of Economics has received over 270 000 euros in EU-funding for a research project that aims to design guidelines and support actions for circular economy in the humanitarian sector.

There is still plenty of untapped tourism potential in Ostrobothnia. Hanken School of Economics is thus partnering with the relevant tourism stakeholders to draw up a road map of the various local players’ shared visions of how tourism could be developed in the province.

Limiting global warming requires reducing substantially the greenhouse gases that our economies emit, particularly the emissions of firms driving economic activity. The European Union committed to reduce emissions down to net zero by 2050 and Finland by 2035. Meeting these commitments requires continued actions of governments and firms, but also of financial actors.

EU har förbundit sig vid att minska nettoutsläppen till noll fram till år 2050 och Finland till år 2035. Since 2020 climate-related disasters are the number one cause for displacement in the world rather than conflicts - and a lot of conflicts these days are also climate induced. The Do no harm-mandate in the humanitarian context should include environmental issues but is still neglected all too often, new research shows.

Quantum is a versatile meeting place that offers access to company and financial databases and allows for the handling of big data. Modern technology makes it possible to stream all classes and other events, as well as allowing for keeping up with real-time financial news. Quantum, made possible by donations, opened in February 2020.

The growing importance of ESG data for financial decision making and for achieving sustainability goals was the topic of a webinar hosted by Hanken School of Economics on 11.6.2020. The speakers called for increased standardisation, transparency, availability and reliability of sustainability data in the face of pressing climate and environmental demands.

Universiteten i Finland ökar antalet platser i våren studentantagning 2020. Inom de ekonomiska vetenskaperna har vissa universitet fattat beslut om att öka studieplatserna och vid vissa universitet är den utökade antagningen under beredning. Inom de ekonomiska vetenskaperna planeras en ökning på cirka 200 nya studieplatser. Ökningen av studieplatser kommer att kräva finansiering i statens nästa tilläggsbudget.
