At the international level, states from the Global South (i.e. Africa, Asia and Latin America) agree that responsible business means transferring knowhow, resources and technology from the north to the south, and that companies must not violate state sovereignty. The University Collegium of Hanken approved the financial statements for 2022 at its meeting on 8 May 2023. Hanken's operating result in 2022 was -2.9 million compared to the budgeted –3,0 million.

In a world where humanitarian crises seem to be an ever-present reality, delivering aid to those in need has become more challenging than ever. As humanitarian organisations increasingly turn to cash and voucher assistance (CVA) as a way to provide aid , it is crucial to consider the logistical implications of this. PhD Johanna Gummerus has been appointed as the new Professor of Marketing at Hanken School of Economics. Professor Gummerus has a long and warm relationship with Hanken. She graduated from the university in 2011 and enjoys it so much that she has worked here ever since.

According to a recent survey, student well-being has increased significantly during the autumn semester as Hanken has been able to reopen for normal activities. Yet there are also students, especially at bachelor level, who feel both lonely and want support with their studies.

There is an urgent need for a better legal quality in negotiation and commercial contracting practice. Legal design can provide for comprehensibility and a higher quality, according to Katri Nousiainen, doctoral student at Hanken School of Economics and professional in legal education.

Academics in management and organization studies today have been driven into focusing predominantly on building a CV and developing networks, securing funding and producing articles published in high-ranked journals, all of which supports the university’s competitive position in global rankings. As a result, we see academics who neglect their own life in terms of material, emotional or familial sustenance, and social relations. Instead, they devote all their time to precarious work.

In the most recent alumni survey, nearly every respondent stated that they have a positive attitude towards their alma mater, and that they are proud to be associated with Hanken. At a seminar at Hanken 3.3.2022, HUMLOG's experts and researchers commented on the situation in Ukraine and why it would be more effective if the outside world's aid to Ukraine would be monetary rather than sending goods.

KvarkenSat is a joint small satellite between the Ostrobothnian provinces and Västerbotten. It is due to be launched into space in just over a year, with drawings by children and young people on board on the satellite. The small satellite is the result of cooperation across the Kvarken. It also demonstrates that the conquest of space is not just for space superpowers.

The Nordic countries have made it easier for women to combine work and family by creating a parental leave system that has contributed to high labour force participation for women and lower costs in the form of lost income. Parental leave can, however, also have negative consequences for women's careers in professions where knowledge progresses fast.

Many countries in Europe are struggling to achieve higher vaccination coverage in the fight against covid-19. This has raised the question of how more people could be motivated to take the vaccine. A new study, which Hanken School of Economics has been involved in and which was published in the scientific journal Science, shows that a small payment equivalent to 20 euros made more people get vaccinated in Sweden.

Political discussions about whether to merge Hanken in Vaasa with Åbo Akademi University or with the University of Vaasa have been ongoing ever since Hanken in Vaasa was established in 1980. Today Sören Kock, dean and rector’s representative in Vaasa, sees the possibility of Hanken in Vaasa remaining as Hanken in a positive light. “I find it fascinating that a Triple-Crown accredited university manages to operate in two locations,” Kock remarks.

The panelists in the discussion “What is happening? – The impact of the US presidential elections” at Hanken raised uncertainty as top priority in both Trump’s election period and next week’s elections.

Christina Dahlblom has been appointed Professor of Practice at Hanken’s Department of Management and Organisation as of 3 November 2020. Dahlblom wants to contribute to even tighter networks and dialogues between Hanken and the corporate world, in order to help Hanken continue developing cooperation, research and teaching that brings value to both Hanken, businesses and society.

Brief video messages have become part of everyday social media communication, and they were a growing trend within internal corporate communications in the 2010s. New research shows that using video messages for strategic communications increases the feeling of transparency and inclusion within the company.

How does one become an entrepreneur or a business person in general? Experiential learning, which basically means learning by doing (and reflecting on what you did), or simply “getting out of the building” in this context, is perhaps the strongest single paradigm in entrepreneurship education at the moment.

The Finnish universities are following up on the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and are carefully preparing for the practical arrangements of student admissions under these exceptional circumstances. Universities are preparing for different scenarios in close collaboration with Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture and the Finnish National Agency for Education in compliance with the authorities’ instructions. Any entrance exam changes will be reported by 15 April.
