Does geography affect corporate governance? Although traits that may correlate with geography such as legal/regulatory environments and the socio-cultural context have long been known to influence governance, recent evidence suggests a more direct influence of geography on governance.  Specifically, the local supply of directors may limit the ability of firms to identify and secure suitable directors. This can also affect the quality and perhaps the independence of the board.  Moreover, firms may need to seek directors from more remote locations, which creates impediments to the efficient gathering of information. In this talk, Professor Harley "Chip" Ryan will discuss the implications of recent research on geography and governance as it relates to governance characteristics observed in practice.

The research seminar is open for all interested.
