SDG vecka: Klädreparationsworkshop
The EU generates about 12.6 million tons of textile waste per year. Clothing and footwear alone account for 5.2 million tons of waste, which is 12 kilograms per person per year. One way to extend the lifetime of clothes is learning how to repair them. Handicrafts club therefore invites you to join a clothing repair workshop on Thursday September 25, 2025.
Bring your own broken or worn out clothes with you to the workshop, the workshop facilitators Julia Talvitie and Pau Kettunen will instruct on different techniques to repair them. Julia and Pau are both accomplished volunteers at the Repair City, a community of people in Kalasatama who fix and mend clothes and other textiles every first Saturday of the month. They are also studying to become crafts teacher and a custom tailor.
Example of what could be done during the workshop:
- mending holes
- darning socks
- sewing torn seams
- sewing buttons
The workshop can accommodate max 20 Hanken students or staff members. Please register on the link above by using your Hanken-ID. The spots will be filled in the order of registration.
