Guest lecture by Prof. Anna Scherbina, University of California at Davis, Graduate School of Management

HCCG welcomes you to another guest lecture, this time on the topic of discrimination and personal attributes. We proudly welcome Professor Anna Scherbina from University of California at Daves, Graduate School of Management, as the lecturer.

Discrimination in the workplace has negative consequences for all parties. Hiring and advancing employees solely based on merit should be the goal of any performance-oriented organization. However, often, various personal biases of decision makers appear to enter personnel decisions.

Prior research has documented racial and gender-based discrimination in the workplace. Prof. Scherbina will present the first large-scale study to document evidence of workplace discrimination. She studies career outcomes of mutual fund managers. Mutual fund industry provides an ideal setting for such a study because, unlike the case in other industries, performance of individual managers can be easily measured.
