Som en del av SDG-veckan fokuserar det här frukostseminariet på EU-direktivet Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (EmpCo), samt dess konsekvenser för hållbarhetskommunikation och påståenden riktade till konsumenter. Under seminariet berättar arbetslivsprofessor Laura Ihanainen mer om EmpCo, följt av en panel bestående av företagsrepresentanter med insikter i hur företag förbereder sig för och implementerar EmpCo-direktivets krav. En lätt frukost serveras kl. 8.30 och seminariet hålls kl. 9.00-10.15. Evenemanget hålls på engelska.

Discussion
Is the EmpCo Directive a move from generic sustainability claims to silence, or is it a real driver of transparency and sustainable transformation?
The discussion will focus on the impacts of the Empowering Consumers Directive (EmpCo) on companies’ sustainability communications directed at consumers.

About the speakers

Laura Ihanainen, Professor of Practice, Hanken School of Economics

Laura Ihanainen is Professor of Practice at Hanken. She is specialised in sustainable development, especially on sustainable food value chains and grocery business. In recent years, she has deepened her speciality on EU ESG regulation. Laura has a PhD in Marketing from the University of Helsinki and has worked both in academia but also in the retail and software industry. She has worked as Senior Sustainability Manager at Kesko and is currently Sustainability Manager at Snellman Group. 

During her keynote presentation she will discuss what the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (EmpCo) means in practice and what kind of changes are needed in consumer communication. In the EmpCo directive, which comes in force on 27 of September 2026 onwards, generic sustainability claims without proof are prohibited at EU level. 

 

Anna Nicol, Director Sustainability, Fazer Group

Anna Nicol leads Fazer's sustainability strategy, ESG reporting, and the implementation of evolving EU sustainability regulations like CSRD and EUDR. Throughout her career, Anna has held leadership roles across sustainability, strategy, risk management, internal audit and business development, combining strong commercial acumen with sustainability expertise.

 

Kaisa Mattson, Group Head of Sustainability, Tokmanni

Kaisa Mattson is specialized in corporate sustainability, ESG strategy, reporting, and stakeholder engagement, with particular expertise in the retail sector. In recent years, she has deepened her focus on sustainability governance, ESG compliance, and the evolving EU sustainability regulatory landscape. She has extensive experience in integrating sustainability into business strategy and operations, as well as leading sustainability reporting and stakeholder collaboration across international value chains. Kaisa currently works as Group Head of Sustainability, leading sustainability development and ESG initiatives in Tokmanni Group, a major Nordic retail company.

 

Nikodemus Solitander, Associate Dean of Sustainability, Hanken School of Economics

Nikodemus Solitander

Nikodemus Solitander works as researcher in Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility at Hanken School of Economics. He is currently acting as Hanken's Associate Dean of Sustainability and is the director of CCR, Centre for Corporate Responsibility. He holds a Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management and Corporate Geography.
