Hanken School of Economics has been granted over 150,000 euros from the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Ostrobothnia for a research project aimed at developing tourism solutions that are more accessible, sustainable, and community-based. The project's pilot area is the World Heritage site in the Kvarken Archipelago.

The first ever ENGAGE.EU Europitch took place at Hanken School of Economics at the end of November. The event brought together the best of university related start-ups from across Europe to coach them for their participation at Slush and for future international growth.

KvarkenSat is a joint small satellite between the Ostrobothnian provinces and Västerbotten. It is due to be launched into space in just over a year, with drawings by children and young people on board on the satellite. The small satellite is the result of cooperation across the Kvarken. During the spring, a course in cultural sustainability and communications was organized for the first time at Hanken. The course was a response to the students' interest in courses in the humanities.
