Degree Certificate

Instructions for the application for degree certificate and information about the graduation ceremony. Hanken will transition to issuing electronic degree certificates from 1.1.2026. Degree certificates issued before this date will be issued in paper form.

The Degree Certificate

Once you have completed all your courses and submitted your master’s thesis or your doctoral thesis has been approved, you can apply for your degree certificate. The electronic form for application for degree certificate is found further down this page.

Upon graduation, you will receive the degree certificate, a transcript of records as well as a Diploma Supplement in English. The Diploma Supplement is a document for international use and follows the model developed by the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES. It provides a description of the degree in question and how the degree is positioned within the Finnish higher education system.

Please note that we do not send the original degree certificates by mail.

Electronic degree certificates issued from January 1, 2026

As of January 1, 2026, Hanken will transition to issuing electronic degree certificates. This change applies to all students graduating after this date. The last opportunity to receive a paper degree certificate is the graduation date of December 18, 2025.

In order to graduate on December 18, 2025, you must submit the electronic application for degree certificate by November 20, 2025. In addition, all courses and degree requirements must be completed and registered in Sisu by December 2, 2025. If you are currently writing your master’s thesis, please note that you must submit your thesis by October 31, 2025, to be able to graduate in December. You can find more details about the timetable for graduation.

The electronic degree certificate will be an official PDF document, certified with an electronic signature.

Advantages of electronic degree certificates include:

  • Increased information security – electronic degree certificates are digitally signed and harder to forge than printed ones.
  • Faster and smoother processing – you will receive your degree certificate more quickly and can easily use it for various digital processes, such as job applications.
  • Simplified verification – the authenticity of the degree certificate can be easily verified through certification services.
  • Environmental and cost benefits – reduced use of paper and resources.
  • Easy storage – the certificate can be easily saved, for example in cloud services or on your computer, so that you always have it with you, wherever you are in the world.
