Welcome to an online discussion on sustainable investing hosted by Hanken School of Economics 1 June 2021.

Sustainable investing - Financing the future?

Sustainable Investing is an increasingly popular phenomena in the current financial markets. What are the impacts of sustainable investing and how can these be measured? Who are the sustainable investors and what is the difference to Impact Investors? How is the upcoming regulation going to change the field in the future? How can a Senian Social Justice thinking help in setting up Impact Investing arrangements to benefit future generations?

These topics and future avenues of sustainable and impact investing are discussed by Associate Professors Othmar Lehner and Hanna Silvola in the new Hanken webinar series A cup of Hanken.

The event will be hosted by Camilla Wardi (Head of Corporate Relations and Outreach at Hanken).

The event is broadcasted live from Hanken and participation will occur online through Teams Live Event on Tuesday 1 June 2021 at 9.00-10.00.

Speakers

Othmar Lehner

Othmar Lehner, Associate Professor at Hanken

Professor Lehner is the Director of the Hanken Centre of Accounting, Finance and Governance in Helsinki, the Vice Dean for the Quantitative Techniques in Economics and Management (QTEM) programme, and the Honorary Director of the ACRN Oxford Research Network.

His research interests are Impact Investing as well as the sustainable digital transformation of the accounting and finance industry with Big Data, Data Science and AI applications. In his more than 25 years of field experience, he has directed several large R&D projects from the strategic planning through the training and implementation phases in the private and public sectors.

He habilitated (higher doctorate leading to a docent-ship) in the fields of both Accounting and Information Sciences, and works as associate professor for Accounting at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki and fractional full professor in Finance at the Middlesex University of London.

Hanna Silvola

Hanna Silvola, Associate Professor at Hanken

Hanna Silvola is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Hanken School of Economics, Finland. Her research interests are in sustainable investing and in measuring, reporting and assuring corporate sustainability information in strategic decision-making. She has international experience from the London School of Economics, UK, University of Stanford, USA, Monash University, Australia and the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Dr. Silvola has published on a range of topics in accounting in journals such as Accounting, Organizations and Society; Management Accounting Research; Journal of Small Business Management and Journal of Management Accounting Review. Her co-authored book Vastuullisuudesta ylituottoa sijoituksiin was published in Finnish in 2019 and the international edition Sustainable Investing: Beating the Market with ESG will be published in June 2021. She has comprehensive experience as a speaker in media and executive education.


The programme will be held in English. The seminar is free of charge and is open for Hanken alumni, students, staff and corporate partners to register by 30 May.
