Language requirement

Here you find the language requirements for admission to MSc studies in English.

All applicants needs to fulfill one of the following language requirements:

*In case the degree is a double degree/triple degree/transnational degree/joint degree, at least 50 % of the degree must have been obtained while the student physically has been studying in the country in question in order to fulfill the language requirement.

No other English proficiency tests are accepted. These requirements apply to all applicants and Hanken does not do any exceptions.

If you wish to apply to the Double Degree programme within the programme International Strategy and Sustainability (only available through the main admission round), please note that the language requirement is higher than the regular admission requirements within the Main Admission:

Deadlines for taking the language test

  • MAIN ADMISSION: The last date to take one of the accepted language tests is 18 January 2023.  
    • It is hence ok, that the actual test result reaches Hanken after the application deadline.
    • In case you are taking the test so late that you do not have the test results at the moment of submitting your application to the main application round - fill in which test you will take/took and the date of taking the test on the application form. This way we should be able to verify the results as soon as they arrive.
       
  • ROLLING ADMISSION: You must have received the test result BEFORE you can submit your application.  
    • ​​​​​​​All applicants must attach a test taker's copy of the test result to the application.

NOTE!

  • Hanken accepts tests which are no older than 2 years. 
    • MAIN ADMISSION: Your test result must be valid on the final application deadline in order for the test to be accepted.
    • ROLLING ADMISSION: your language test result must be valid for the whole duration of the processing of your application (30 days after submitting your application).
       
  • Book the test as early as possible - the test procedure may take several months including registration for the test, taking the test and getting the results.It is your responsibility to find out the test dates and closing dates for registration. 
  • It is your responsibility to find out the test dates and closing dates for registration for the language tests.
  • If you already have a sufficient test result, check the validity of your result and make arrangements for a new test well in advance, if necessary.
  • Remember to give Hanken access to your test result in the test organisation's database.

 

When taking the language test

TOEFL or TOEFL iBT® Home Edition

  • The test score report must be sent directly by the Educational Testing Services (ETS) to Hanken as soon as the score is available.
  • Only the official score report submitted by ETS is accepted.
  • When filling out the TOEFL test registration form, please fill in Hanken’s reporting code 8433 in the score report recipient field.
  • The test results will be verified with the test organiser.
     

IELTS Academic or IELTS Indicator (Academic)

  • Request the IELTS test centre to forward your language test results to Hanken School of Economics as soon as possible; please nominate Hanken School of Economics as the receiver of the test result.
  • For the IELTS indicatior test, include the IELTS Indicator Score ID in your application.
  • An applicant's copy of the test result should also be enclosed with the application if available.
  • The test results will be verified with the test organiser.
     

C2 Proficiency (previous name CPE) and C1 Advanced

  • A Statement of Results should be enclosed with the application documents. An applicant’s copy is acceptable, since the results can be verified with the test organiser.
  • Include your Candidate's ID (3 letters and 6 numbers) and Candidate Secret Number (4 numbers). These codes can be found on your Confirmation of Entry. Note! These codes are not the same as your personal login and password.
  • The test results will be verified with the test organiser.
     

PTE Academic

  • Test results for PTE Academic are typically available within 5 working days of the test session.
  • Once you receive your test score, send it to Hanken School of Economics from your PTE account. Choose Finland as the 'Country', Hanken School of Economics as the 'Institution' and click 'Search'. Then select the university you want to send your results to and confirm your order.
  • The scores can be sent to an unlimited number of institutions free of charge. The test organiser will send you an email to confirm that your scores have been sent. 
  • After this, Hanken should have access to your test results within 48 hours.
  • The test results will be verified with the test organiser.

     

The Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency YKI test in English

  • Note! The Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency YKI test result has to be submitted with your application and hence have to be taken well in advance before submitting the application.
  • Hanken does not accept YKI language tests taken after the application deadline.
  • Your test result will be verified with the test organiser.
