Hanken Advanced Language Internship grant (HALI)
The Hanken Advanced Language Internship Grant (HALI) is intended to promote internships in French-, Spanish-, and German-speaking countries. The HALI grant can be applied for on a rolling basis throughout the year by contacting Career Services at careerservices@hanken.fi. Following your application, we will assess your eligibility and can give you a promise of a HALI grant. This promise can be realised provided that all prerequisites and internship position requirements described below on this page, are fulfilled.
The HALI-grant amounts to EUR 1,000 per month, with possible additional funding for internships within EU/EEA countries through Erasmus+. The grant is paid out during the spring semester before the internship.
Students are awarded 5 ECTS credits for two months of full-time internship and 10 ECTS credits for at least four months of full-time internship.
Please note! Only one HALI grant can be awarded per student during their studies at Hanken.
Prerequisites for receiving a HALI grant promise
- The student should be enrolled in an integrated degree programme at Hanken and has already completed the mandatory semester abroad at the bachelor's level (the HALI internship may be undertaken at either bachelor's or master's level, but only once during the student's studies at Hanken), OR the student is enrolled in a master's degree programme at Hanken (having completed their bachelor's degree at another higher education institution) and has completed at least 30 ECTS credits in business and economics.
- At application deadline: either completed at least language level 4 at Hanken (CEFR B1.2) or is registered to a language course level 4 at Hanken
- At departure: completed at least a minimum level CEFR B1.2 in economic language and communication skills at Hanken
- Specific language requirements:
- German: completed Deutsch IV (5551 Deutsch IV-1: Geschäftskommunikation - German IV-1: Business Communication or 5552 Deutsch IV-2 Mündliche Kommunikation: Präsentieren - Vortragen - Überzeugen -German IV-2 Oral Communication: Presenting - Reciting - Convincing)
- French: completed French 4 (5240 Travailler en français en entreprise 4 - French business communication 4)
- Spanish: completed Spanish 4 (5433 Español 4 - Spanish 4)
- In case courses are transferred from another university, they must be approved by Hanken before the application deadline.
- In order to receive the grant you have to complete one of the courses Internship abroad in German/French/Spanish I/II.
Requirements on the internship position
- The internship must be carried out in a country where German, Spanish, or French is an official language. The majority of the internship must be conducted in one of these languages.
- The internship must last a minimum of two months and a maximum of four months.
- The HALI grant can only be awarded if at least two months, the minimum lenght, of the internship period take place between May and August.
- Once you have secured an internship placement, you should upload a Learning Agreement in Mobility Online. In the document, you will provide details of the internship placement. The document must also be signed by a representative of the host organization and by the examiner of the Internship abroad course at Hanken.
