The Wellness Syndrome

Place
Helsinki
Room
Assembly Hall

Not exercising as much as you should? Counting your calories in your sleep? Feeling ashamed for not being happier? You may be a victim of the wellness syndrome.

During this seminar, Professor André Spicer from Cass Business School will discuss the  most fascinating ideology of our time, “wellness”, with professor Mika Pantzar, Kuluttajatutkimuskeskus, Aalto University School of Business, psychotherapist Maaret Kallio, Väestöliiton seksuaaliterveysklinikka, Helsingin Sanomat, and PhD Frank Martela,Aalto University School of Business.

The discussion will be  based on the ground-breaking new book, The Wellness Syndrome, in which Carl Cederström and André Spicer argue that the ever-present pressure to maximise our wellness has started to work against us, making us feel worse and provoking us to withdraw into ourselves. The book follows health freaks, who go to extremes to find the perfect diet, corporate athletes who start the day with a dance party, and the self-trackers who monitor everything, including their own toilet habits.

The seminar will be arranged on Wednesday 21 January at 14-16 in the Hanken Main Building, Assembly Hall (Arkadiankatu 22, Helsinki)

The seminar is organised by the Department of Management and Organisation.
