14.15 Discussion

The possibility to restrict the employee’s right to engage in competitive activities once his contract has expired is a highly actual topic which has been widely debated. During the last years many countries have restricted the possibilities to use non-compete clauses. In Sweden the labour organisations have signed a detailed central agreement regarding the use of non-compete clauses.

In Finland a working group established by the Ministry of economic affairs and employment  has published a report concerning non-compete clauses on 14.08.2019, and the new Finnish government has stated that it intends to modernise the law.

Reinhold Fahlbeck is professor emeritus at the university of Lund. Fahlbeck has also worked as visiting professor at numerous universities, e.g. the Jagiellonian University in Poland, Sophia University in Japan and Stanford Law School in the USA. During the last few years Fahlbeck has been extensively researching in the area of trade secrets and con-compete clauses. His extensive publishing activities were extended earlier this year when he published a book on the 2018 Trade Secrets Act in Sweden.

The lecture is open for all interested parties, and participation is free of charge. No advance notification of participation is required. The lecture is held in English.
